Just started a bowl of Casanova in my Rattray's. It got me wondering about the comparative temperatures of matches and lighters. Matches apparently provide a lit temperature averaging about 650 degrees C, a butane lighter averages approximately 1200, twice as hot. I imagine this might have an impact on the initial flavour of tobacco as we smoke. I know matches taint the flavour of tobacco if the head is not consumed before an initial light. I have often felt that, properly executed, the initial light from a wooden match is more flavourful than with a butane lighter. This is backed up, in my own experience, by lighting pipes at a campfire with light tinder rather than a match. Discuss?

I will often use a match for lighting a pipe. But your right, always wait for the sulphur head to burn first, and never ever use a torch flame lighter, they burn way to hot, and will kill your Briar. But I know, I'm preaching to the converted, so I'll hush my gums 🤫

Good morning everyone. Just finishing up a bowl of Urban Cowboy in a Sav Hercules 606EX with morning coffee. Playing fetch with Charlie and watching the quail eat breakfast. Yep, it's Derby day. Taking the Street Glide out for a ride with my buddy and lunch at our favorite country diner. Then off to the Legion this afternoon for a Derby party. Have a great day everyone.

Enjoyed a tasty lunch, and am not far from finishing this bowl of year 2020 Watch City Rouxgaroux in a smooth medium bend 2021 Peterson POTY Natural 4AB No. 6/500 military mount with a silver cap and a tapered black vulcanite AB stem. Gold Star Hawaiian Kona Extra Fancy, neat, is my drink. Getting ready to watch the Pirates-Rockies game. The scampers are out in full force, and enjoying their lives for all they are worth.

I've had a social afternoon while smoking an MM Morgan filled with C&D Blockade Runner that I allowed to air for a while to tone down the rum. I just got back from a trip for a jug of wine and I'm finishing the MM Washington 5th Ave filled with GLP Westminster that I took along for the ride.
