I went to the dentist for the first time in years this week because I have some pain in one of my molars. He said I needed to have it pulled and an implant put in. What surprised me is that he had no comment at all about my pipe smoking that I put on the paperwork when it asked. Maybe he is worried more about the more pressing work that needs to be done.

How old r u? The reason I ask is my Dad is in his 80’s and had a tooth pulled and the moron dentist had him go for an inpatient… nothing but problems after that! I’m 61 and had a couple of back teeth removed and have no problem eating

Daveinlax, I think you’re right. I was a cigarette smoker But stopped a 1 1/2 ago 🎉. Had a lot of problems in the past with my teeth. I haven’t had a problem with my teeth since.

I'm 43. I hope to have another 43 years of chewing left.

I never disclose to any healthcare provider I smoke. If smoking is an issue they will know within seconds without question.
I don't tell my primary doctor because I don't see the need, but since oral cancer is a risk of pipe smoking, I thought the dentist should know. I wonder if he even paid attention to that part?

If a dentist is true to his or her profession they will tell you the REAL truth. There is absolutely zero proof that pipe smoking or cigar smoking causes mouth cancer, zero. This is government propaganda. There is a dentist and a oral surgeon that said this. They both said that this is a known fact BUT, they do not want to public to know this because smoking causes heart issues. But these oral physicians said that the cause of oral, neck, and head cancers are caused by HPV, a virus infection that causes cell mutation, not pipe or cigar smoking. They said that there are people who got cancer who smoked pipes and cigars, but every single one tested positive for HPV. They also said that most people who had oral cancer never smoked in their lives, but all tested positive for HPV. At least in their office. You can find the YouTube videos online. I was stunned when I saw those doctors admitting this.
