Hey BoB's who might be interested in packs, etc., I'm an owner of a 1990's Dana Designs Bridger pack, so like to keep up with the industry a bit. Dana Gleason one of the founders, started Mystery Ranch, and I've always wanted one of their packs. I read that Yeti had bought them out and to expect changes. The new CEO is rumored to be from Osprey, another great pack company. Before major changes set in, I wanted to grab something to replace my standard Timbuk2 laptop day pack, only smaller. I found a Mystery Ranch Rip Ruck 15L pack (old style), and really like it. They also have some good EDC type smaller packs and pouches that might work as pipe travel gear. Some of their packs use PALS (mine does) which allow attachment of MOLLE components like pouches, etc. I hope to hear about anyone's experiences with Mystery Ranch or other gear. Here's to packin.

I had a mystery ranch (not sure the model, was issued at my unit) a while ago and personally was not a big fan. Didn't feel comfortable on the shoulders and back. The shoulder straps were too close together at the top and would dig into the sides of my next, and were not adjustable. This was over 10-12 years ago and everyone I've talked to who owns one now says they love them.

I have only owned a Kifaru ruck which was amazing (full frame w/ carbon fiber stays.) It had a molle panel that I could attach modular pouches to, so worked great as an aid bag with sustainment capability.

The hotshots I worked with on wildfires all had mystery ranch stuff and they liked the comfort and durability.

My unit keeps saying they are getting me a MR RATS aid bag but I will believe it when I see it lol.
