Great find! Be very careful with what appears to be an amber stem: I had a pipe of my father's that had an amber stem; one day I went to take it from the rack and it literally disintegrated in my hands. No advice on how to prevent this; just urging caution.
Here's are my Sherlock Holmes series pipes:
L to R: Rathbone, Mycroft, Moran, Milverton, Lestrade, Hudson, Professor, Deerstalker, Baskerville, Baker Street, Squire, Strand
Figgy pudding in a Peterson Sherlock Holmes Moran. This may be my favorite shape of all the SH series. The first fishing outing of the year; 70's in February! Crappies were bitin'!
'Twas today, or so I'm told. I settled on a Pete SH Lestrade and some of my hoarded McClellan's British Woods. Happy IPSD and best to all the Brothers!
Famous Grouse, neat with a splash, since my local liquor purveyor can't or won't stock Teachers anymore. Love the single malts but my pay grade doesn't support them as a regular tipple. Total Wines and More has opened here though, and I picked this up...
I don't know much about it but at...
I acquired two Peterson 301 systems, one I purchased long ago, another I got in a group of estate pipes. I moved one of them because I'd rather have another of a different shape. That said, now that I think of it I have four 106's: a saddle stem and a tapered stem Donegal Rocky, a smooth...
I'm a one-of-each person; I have enough trouble deciding which pipe to pull from the rack. If I had more than one of a particular pipe I might be there all day :ROFLMAO: !
Some years back while in the music business a co-worker and I were headed to a show in Houston pulling a trailer full of instruments. My wife decided to go along. It was a dreary mid-winter day and we were about 30 miles north of Dallas when we topped a rise and everything on the other side...
It's your pipe, do as you like. But if it were me I'd consider just finding a smaller pipe. You could sell it, or just rack it in case your preferences change. JMO.
I know I'm a Philistine, but I typically just sprinkle a little distilled water on the tobacco, give it a shake and close 'er up. The moisture dispenses throughout the tobacco in pretty short order.
I actually really like the rough finish on some of the Holmes series so long as they are not the "pinecone" rustication that Peterson has done on some pipes.. I'm not sure if my Hudson, Deerstalker and Milverton are rusticated or sandblasted but I preferred it over the smooth in those shapes...
