Jim. I can emphasize with you. Since the end of December I've taken off 25 lbs. I was at 215, now 190 before leaving for NYC. Noon today I had my first burger with fries since Dec; Hard to eat sensibly here. Oh well, everyone needs a break.

I have a dozen transition era Barlings that I purchased in the 70s. They have always been good smokers.

I worked with Carl at Diebel's when he was writing his book. He knew his tobaccos and pipes.

It's sorta like ****ography - hard to define, but you know it when you see it.

PlanofMan, well I oil treated my Sav deLux 804EX Canadian, but not with Almond oil - couldn't find my tin of that. Instead I had a tin of walnut oil in the Frig and it wasn't rancid. I plugged the shank and reamed it down to bare wood filled the bowl and cooked it in the microwave. Takes about...

Ok, here is one I've promised. I have this beautiful Sav deluxe with a 9 inch shank that's been a terrible smoker - bitter and hot. I reamed it to wood this morning, plugged the shank, filled it with Walnut oil and cooked it in the microwave. Gentlemen, it's smoking sweet! I will keep you posted.

Love the bead work. That takes time and speaks to care put into that pipe. Very attractive.
