Really Looking Like My Years of Living Alone Are About To End

Taking care of family, it's what we do. They, especially the children, are lucky to have you smooth out the changes they're facing.

I bought a few from that store when visiting family in the area.

Would you let your 3 year old kid get on his truck?

Several times over those early years I would find myself locked out of the house and would crawl through the milk shoot. Today, I'd need the fire department with the jaws of life to get me out!

Would you let your 3 year old kid get on his truck?

Going through the process of digitizing a lot of old family photos and came across this one. Back in the early '50s, like many urban areas, we had daily milk delivery. Golden Gurnsey was a major dairy in the Milwaukee area and my parents would let me walk to the end of the block and I'd "help"...

I've got several stems and bodies and over three dozen bowls, many of them custom-made for me by Mad Dog (if anyone remembers him from the past), see pix below. This was my FB pix for several years. I especially like them in winter, when the bodies get cold and it really takes the moisture out...

After Smoking The Same Blend For Many Days

With one exception, I generally do not smoke the same blend for more than a couple of days in a row. It seems to lose its interest for me, or perhaps my limited taste buds become numb to its nuances. Even my favorite blends go bland if smoked in succession. When I come back to them weeks or...

Where did you start...and where did it lead?

Interesting. I spent two years in the area (Peten over to Cayo Belize) working on my dissertation back in the mid-80s. My interest/research was not so much on archeology but on the flow and economic impact of tourism. Small world.

Where did you start...and where did it lead?

That many years ago, in Guatemala, could it have been some of the early work in the Paten, perhaps Tikal?

    Todays chuckle

Q: If someone from the 1950s suddenly appeared, what would be the most difficult thing to explain to them about life today? A: I possess a device, in my pocket, that is capable of accessing the entirety of information known to man. I use it to look at cat videos and get in arguments with...

Digging through my tobacco larder and...HoCheMunga!

No no no! I have a small jar of 1792 and if I get within 10 feet of it (still sealed) I lapse into projectile vomiting. A week-old damp, fermenting pile of my work duds doesn't reach the level of 1792.

Where did you start...and where did it lead?

Like kxg, I started in my college years, also in the early 70s. I had no relatives or friends that smoked a pipe (well, many of my friends in college smoked "pipes", it was the early 70s and all that, but not exactly the types of pipes or smoking material we're discussing here) so it was hit...

Digging through my tobacco larder and...HoCheMunga!

Yes, I've always been a bit confused about that (and most of the rest of the world's events as well). Did they buy the blend names and recipes, or move the original production from Vermont to KC, or did I just imagine this all happened at the end of a night of heavy drinking? Perhaps wiser...

Digging through my tobacco larder and...HoCheMunga!

Does anyone out there remember Levin Tobaccos? A 1988 tin of his Virginia Woods was hiding in the bottom of a box. Notice how they don't just stamp the date on the bottom of the can, but personalize the labels for each month's production. Then I stumble upon 9 soup cans I purchased from the...

    The beginning of the end?

I've never found a "local" B&M here in Arkieland, but have fond memories of visiting (damn near laid a sleeping bag on the floor and took up residence!) Uhles in downtown Milwaukee. Spent about half my life in that area and the old folks there helped me figure out what I like to smoke and how...

Severe plantar fasciitis came on suddenly

I've suffered from it for a couple of years now. Stretching, especially when I first get out of bed, helps. For me, it's primarily a first thing in the morning problem, or if I work a couple soccer games back to back or backpacking more than just a couple miles. I've worn custom orthotics...

    Selling your McClelland's?

I purchased from Steve (pipe stud) a couple of years ago, when prices weren't that extreme. He was a real straight guy and I may have him sell some MC blends from my larder. Right now (mid-May) his site doesn't list any tobaccos, some problems with PayPal, not him, but he said it should be...
