    Tobacco I'll Never Smoke

This may not interest most, but something I started doing about 20 years ago is still producing a blend that I smoke a couple of times a week. Like most of us, I ended up with a variety of blends that sounded good by their descriptions but were "false advertising" to my taste buds. I started...

    Secret Santa 2020 - BOB's Thirteeth

This will work. As I have more tobacco cellared than I can possibly smoke in the years I have left, and increasingly poor memory, I'll dig around in the back shelves and be surprised that I've actually had tins of this or that for the past decades. Life gets easier if you don't think too much.

    New to me pipe rack

I've got the 9-pipe version just like this one, crack and all. They were once pretty much standard among pipers back in the dark ages. I've also seen many of them crack on the tip layer, as well, but it doesn't seem to impact their utility. Natch

To nog, or not to nog...

Love it! Like Huffelpuf's post above, my mother made it and handed the recipe down to me (written in 1931). However, the number of raw eggs in it does give pause for concern, but only a brief pause. I rationalize the amount of alcohol will take care of it? Amazing how we can rationalize...

    Secret Santa 2019 - BOB's Twelfth

Looks like I haven't been as bad as my wife seems to think.   Several tobaccos I've never tried, one I haven't had in years, some good cigars, and my favorite coffee (I actually put some in the box I sent out). Thanks, "Saint" Nick, Jeff

    What’s your favorite SNL skit?

Meet Your Second Wife, which oddly enough just popped up on YouTube this week. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MJEAGd1bQuc Amy Poehler and Tina Fay are a great team. Natch

Something to ponder, an email from Blue Room Briars

I do 90% of my puffing solo, most of it in the woods behind my house, or on backpacking or canoe treks. With coffee in the morning, or other libation in the evening, it's a great way to watch the world wake up or go to rest. When backpacking, I often think of that Robert Service Poem: I have...

    Fear of heights?

Yea, I'd drop a mega-load in my pants if I was up there! Natch

    Fear of heights?

Well, that six-pack of tall boys and the dozen shots of cheap tequila you just finished might have something to do with it? I was a roofer back in the late 70s, could throw a flat of shingles on my shoulder, "run" up a 30 foot ladder, and dance across the peak of a steep pitched roof...

    Have pipe will travel

I've had a nice, leather one similar to Brewdude's above for over 20 years now. However, I'm going to actually use it for the first time on a trip in a couple weeks. Usually, my pipe travel bag is a one-quart freezer weight Ziploc bag. (No one has ever accused me of having class!) Most trips...

    Pipes vs. Cigars

My experience has been to rotate between mostly cigars with the occasional pipe, to mostly pipes with the occasional cigar. There seems to be about a yearly rotation between them. However, the "mostly cigars" period is getting shorter through time, perhaps from the cost difference? Natch

    Lost the Love for Latakia

Very interesting thread, thanks for starting it Adam. It's comforting to see that like so many of my BoB's, my tastes migrate over the years. After an extended Virginia and Vaper blends stint, suddenly Latakia blends, straight burly, and (gasp!) even some lighter aromatics have become mighty...

    Secret Santa 2018 - BOB's Eleventh

Well, the head Santa surely didn't check his book of Good Little BoB's, as I ain't been very good this year, (just ask my wife) but my gifts were outstanding!  Or perhaps, in comparison to the rest of the world, I wasn't too bad this year?  That sure speaks poorly of the world today, doesn't it...

    Northern Snake Heads

We recently had an interesting guy from our Arkansas Fish & Game (like the DNR for most states) give a talk on how to clean and cook snake heads. Basically, he said we're not going to stop their spread, so if you can't beat um, eat um. Natch

    Happy birthday, Natch!

Thank you all. The 34th anniversary of my 34th birthday went well (I survived, remembered most of what went on the next day, and was able to walk and think straight within 48 hours, more or less). Natch

The Earth rang like a bell

Good thing we live on a dynamic, constantly recirculating, shaking and reverberating planet, otherwise, life as we know it (perhaps all life?) couldn't exist. Kind of what the current mars probe is doing on that planet. Natch

    those sublime bowls

Well said. I've had a few sublime bowls in my life, and I believe it has more to do with the mood I'm in and where I'm at, more than the pipe or tobacco. The ones that come to mind almost always involve being solo in the woods (canoe or pack) and a beautiful view (sunset, clouds, full moon)...
