    Your Go-To Summer Blends

Okay, it's been awhile since we had a survey: What are your three favorite blends for the warmer weather?? I have three year round favorites - Wilke 400 and two DIY blends (Benediction and Bear Caw), but to these, besides always trying new things, I supplement with seasonal favorites in the...

Earlier tonight: Ashton Gold Rush in a Buescher cob with Evan Williams Honey Bourbon. Right now: clear starry night on deck with Benediction in a Hilson Rainer Barbi. Good way to end the day!

Oh, you could do it easy enough, it's just portions of ready-made tobaccos. What I really meant by ambitious is the challenge of simply getting some of the ingredients, like the Astleys or having to special order from Peretti. Kind of makes Benediction seem more incredible since it's so easy to...

I'm not buying any more jars!!

Better stop now before the madness takes over! :p

Glad you enjoyed it - I keep that one on my shelf of favorites. The recipe may be rather ambitious: made of Peretti D-9507, Astley's 44 and 88, Black Sea Sokhoum, C&D Izmir, and Sutliff 507 stoved Virginia. Let me know if you're still interested and I'll PM the exact details. ;)

Made a somewhat milder version of my Hurley Burley to better go with morning coffee (in a MM Diplomat). I increased the Sassafras Cavendish from 16.6% to 20% and correspondingly reduced the dark-fired. Pretty good. Will have to come up with a new name for this version: Sassy Lassie? :p

I'm not buying any more jars!!

Went to the store to buy another dozen wide-mouth half-pint jars in preparation for some new tobaccos due to arrive. The store was out (I guess it's off seasons for the canning crowd), but I got to thinking about where I would even put any more jars other than in some really inconvenient...

Received my Wilke order; resupply of some favorites and four new blends to try! First up (new to me): Rumcake in a Savinelli 677.

    New to me

Necessity is the other of invention! I too started out oh so innocently with minor tweaks here and there. You're lucky if you only need to make two blends to satisfy your needs. Half of my favorites are my own creations. Anyhow, looks like you have two winners in your repertoire!! :)

Earlier this afternoon; Watch City Persian Slipper in a Design Berlin Prelude. Right now my own blend "Hurly Burley" in a Mark Twain cob. This blend is Burley and dark-fired Kentucky with 1/6 fire-cured Cavendish flavored with sassafras. This makes 123 blends that I've developed, some better...

Had a long drive to go pick up something. Enjoyed a bowl of Oriental Dusk in a Design Berlin. This will be one of my go-to blends this summer. On the way back I've got a bowl of Ashton Gold Rush ready to go. Good to have pipe because the crazy frenetic traffic here in civilization reminds me...

Earlier today: WC Fat ******* in a Design Berlin. Right now John Patton Oriental Dusk in a Buescher cob. Tasty up front but a bit dry on the finish like a fine wine. I may try adding 5% Golden Cavendish, see if that helps or hinders.

Pretty muggy on the front porch, going to sit here just long enough to finish my bowl of C & D Stratfordshire (in a B & B rusticated billiard). Ruby Porto on the side. I'd say this pairing works well with any full-bodied Latakia blend. Probably also work well with some of the hearty ropes. Have...

With my second cup of coffee enjoying some Bald Headed Teacher in a Savinelli Capri. The coffee and Burley-based blend make a seamless transition one to the other. Probably won't have time for another pipe until evening. Sometimes I have to do other things!
