Wilke Sailor Jack in a deeply rusticated B&B. This is more my style than the Pembroke, but I just noticed when I came to the top of this page that Mikem really loves Pembroke. Guess that's why there's so many thousands of blends - something for everybody! :)

What to smoke with that first cup of coffee?

To actually pair with coffee I like some a little nutty and mellow, nothing to bring out any bitterness in the coffee. Cowboy Coffee for sure, Urban Cowboy, or variations of mild Burley and some black Cavendish. I'd be surprised if anybody says they like a Va-Per with coffee, but then again...

Pembroke in a Design Berlin Siegfried. Didn't exactly jump start my day. Like a mellow, muted, watered-down version of Penzance. Oh well, I only have about 5 bowls left in a jar (probably last me five years). Now I'm looking over my jars for something I can really sink my teeth into . . .

My own blend "Nubian Spice" in a bamboo stem Pioneer. This is the most exotic blend I've created using tobaccos from Turkey and Malawi cased in rose water, honey, nutmeg and toasted orange peel. To this I've added 1/8 of Russ Oullette's unique Acadian Perique (made from golden Virginias)...

My own Va-Tur-Per blend called "Serenity" in a Falcon briar. I also have a meer bowl for the Falcon but nothing has ever really popped in either bowl until Serenity. Guess I'll have to dedicate the pipe to this blend! Also started using the Falcon filters because a box of them came with the...

Five Brothers Burley in my Crackle Cob. I picked out all the little bird's-eye nests from the pouch and loaded a bowl full of them. Burns a little slower that way, and quite tasty. Now I have a bunch of fine shag that I'll probably blend with something else. Just something fun to do on a slow...

Not yet. Ozark Wizard recommended it in the thread on Sweet & Smoky blends. I'm just waiting for one vendor to have all the tobaccos I want on one order, I don't care if they're on sale or not, just tired of fluffing my orders with stuff I don't really want or need. Sillem's is a quality brand...

Solani Black & White in a Design Berlin Siegfried. Been reviewing my Top Ten from 2018 and so far I still like them but most have been replaced by new favorites. B&W is still good, especially toward the end of the bowl, but I can think of at least three blends from Wilke that I like better which...

McClelland Scottish Woods in a Peterson meerschaum. The Latakia has now mellowed to a mere wisp.

McClelland Classic Samsun in a pre-Cardogan Comoy Golden Grain. Nice time of year for a stroll with the dogwoods and redbuds in bloom.

    ER friday and yesterday

Sheesh, that hurts just reading about it. Are you trying to take on Rsteve for who has the most calamitous story? Anyway, best wishes for a full recovery!!

Thoroughly enjoying some creamy smooth Wilke Commander in a Design Berlin Prelude. Been a stressful week and since I only sit with a pipe if I'm relaxed enough to enjoy that means this is only the third bowl this week. But it's hit the spot - very relaxed now!

Davidoff Royalty in a London-made Comoy Golden Grain 607. I see it's time to get out the obsidian oil again - part of the joys of vulcanite stems on these older English pipes.

Lovely spring day here: 72 degrees and sunny. McConnell Scottish Flake in a Hilson Rainer Barbi. Every time I do a tobacco order I look to add a tin of this but it is rarely available. It's not like it's made by a small operation like Germain, this K&K, so I don't understand the shortages...

    New Display of Favorites

Reorganized my display shelf so that I have all my favorite pipe and baccy combos ready at hand. The idea of having a pipe dedicated to one or two specific blends is not so much to build "cake resonance" as some sources have discussed, but just so that when I have an hour break to grab a pipe I...
