it's interesting to see what works for different people. i see your point yak about flakes in a wide bowl. i've never had much luck w/the fold & stuff, so i partially rub mine out or sorta cube cut 'em b4 loading

the only difference i've noticed the size of the bowl making is in how long it smokes. some tobacs seem to smoke better in certain pipes compared to others, but i haven't seen that tall/skinny/wide/short has much to do w/it. YMMV

for whatever reason, i lean more towards the english/balkan blends when the weather cools down-i've been enjoying EMP & red raparee a lot lately

i'm smoking MacB's golden xtra ATM-you might also want to try 5 Bros. (high nic), LJ Heart Burley (pipesandcigars.com, mostly burley w/a tiny bit of VA), Peterson's Univ. Flake (burley based very slight aro)-all good stuff thanks for all you do BTW

no offense taken JP-if i didn't have to go outta state to get everclear, i'd probably use it-then again, maybe not, me & booze is a bad combination so i don't keep any around the house-i understand not wanting to use anything you wouldn't put in your body, & i'll admit that eliminates questions...

i use 91% isopropyl (rubbing alcohol) for internal cleaning of the stem, fill the bowl w/cotton balls & alcohol after reaming & let it set for a day-exterior i use murphy's oil soap on the bowl & 600/1000/2000 grit sandpaper on the stem-careful w/the murphy's, just scrub lightly w/a toothbrush...

i always smoke while driving, usually cigars but pipes occaisonally-i think i've finally perfected the one handed tamp-makes me a bit calmer too

i pick what i want to smoke 1st, then the pipe to match-since i'm still in my 1st year back to piping, i'm still in the process of breaking in a few pieces, those get the most attention

hey guys, figured i'd post the obligitory newb intro-name's Todd, 35, just got back to the pipe this yr as a way to quit cigs (it worked!)-been smoking cigars for about 5 yrs & started snuffing this year too-i post on a few different boards under the same handle, recognize a few familiar names...
