Thanks guy! Peanubutter I’d definitely go for it if I were you, just jumping right in (with a little research of course) wasn’t as intimidating as I thought it may be, and it’s fun and rewarding.
A short time back I picked up an Amphora apple at an antique store for $8. I’ve been looking for a cheap pipe to attempt a restore on and this fit the bill.
The pipe wasn’t in too bad of shape to start with with mild oxidation on the stem, scratches around the bowl, a little faded stain, and...
Nice stash! I’d say do whatever works for you and don’t worry about it too much. I don’t think too much moisture is lost just dipping into a jar and if it does begin to feel a bit dry you should be able to rehydrate it as long as you didn’t allow it to get bone dry.
Myself I subscribe to the...
Nice haul, it’s nice to find treasures in a B&M! Durbar took me almost a whole tin to “get it,” but when you do it’s really an amazing blend that didn’t get a lot of attention, enjoy!
It sounds like your stem is probably vulcanite and not plastic, and as allyby stated has oxidized.
Another product I’ve had good success with is Walker Briarworks stem restore kit, which consists of an abrasive cleaner designed specifically for vulcanite that removes the oxidation and a...
If anyone couldn’t live without these pipes I’d be happy to supply the store info. Some big gouges in the briar.
I did find a Holland made Amphora apple in decent shape for 8 bucks. I’m going to attempt a restore on it and if it doesn’t work out, well it was only 8 bucks!
Yea it seems like...
I’m always looking for something special in antique store without much luck. Today was ALMOST an exception.
A Rad Davis ($65) and an American (Tinsky) Black and Tan ($35).
If they didn’t look like they had been run through a wood chipper I’d probably go for it, but there is so much damage to...
I would say it doesn’t remind me of Lakeland at all, it’s a completely different type of floral. To my nose more of an actual floral note than the perfume-like smell I get from Lakeland. Still a pretty light topping, it didn’t seem to me to be overwhelming, and added an interesting compliment to...
Thanks everyone, pictures, as usual, don’t do it justice.
That horn is a pretty new addition, very unique, an Alexa pipe from Serbian carver Dragomir Aleksić.
I’ve admired Neal Yarm’s unique pipe stands and I finally decided to take the plunge and get one to display some of my higher-end pipes (instead of the functional but not too pretty 2nd hand antique store racks I have otherwise). He does great work!
I was able to purchase from a forum member a tin of Pease’s Cumberland with just shy of 14 years of age on it. I popped it open yesterday, and I have to say all that time in the tin has really done some amazing things to this blend! I’m not even really sure how to describe it there’s so much...
Indeed they are a luxury, definitely worth sampling at least once.
Just FYI on large orders, pfeifendepot will only ship up to 2kg including the weight of the packaging material and the actual tin weight, so it works out to something like 11 50g tins or 8 100g tins or a combination. I would...
