    Late-night pipe smoking locales

I simply put a large box fan in the window of my den and puff away in comfort and the smoke is vented adequately. Earl

    HELP! My coffee sucks!

Never tried a French press. Will say, though, that, though I love fresh ground beans and have tried many roasters, have found that I don't like the coffee I end up with any better than ground, canned Cafe Bustelo I pick up for less than $4 per can. Do use a drip Bunn with distilled water which...

    What's up with SF?

Yes, just checked in and re-registered. It's all gone, blank slate. Much of value lost. Unless it's retrievable, don't see myself hanging around there much in the future. But, then again, perhaps I'll start hangin' here again. Earl

Fujima Lighter Adventure and Review - It's mediocre to sucky

Years ago my web search regarding the futility of finding a lighter that was dependable and lasted more that 1 year was what led me to discover the existence of pipe discussion boards. threw in the towel after a number of lighter purchases, stuck with wood matches and never looked back. I just survived my 5th heart attack!

Glad it turned out OK for ya. Have had 9 stents myself. Doc says if I need anything further, it will be by-pass, which freaks me a bit. Wants me to give up the pipe but I'm not ready to do that despite wearing nitro patches and popping the occasional nitro pill. earl

    Churchwardens? Pros? Cons? Preferences?

The Stanwell HCA series is about the only churchwarden pipe that ever really struck my fancy. So, picked up a blasted HCA II, but find myself using the regular stem far more often. Do love its calabashed bowl. 1 of the handy things about the HCA is storage: by always storing it with the regular...

    Brebbia Pipes

Only have but 1, it's a bash-a Lido. Like both its unique take on the calabash shape and its smoking characteristics. Would like to have a brebbia First bash, the plum. earl

    What are you listening to?

Bonnie Raitt, eh? Saw her in concert about 1974. Great with the blues. But, yikes, does that date me. earl

    Premium coffee prices

Actually, unless you have a sizeable Hispanic community, it might not be available. It's an espresso roast. However, check out the website for Javacabana.com. earl

    Premium coffee prices

Hello, Falconer. Spice Merchant-my favorite tea house. Was just there 2 days ago buying some Assam. Wish I could afford premium coffee, but, since I can't, buy Cafe Bustelo from the local WalMart. Canned coffee which tastes as good as almost any freshly roasted whole bean coffee I've ever drank...

    online blues radio

If you're also a traditional jazz fan, would recommend their jazz channel as well. When I want jazz, it's the primary channel I go to. earl

    online blues radio

Cool, a new forum with the chance to make its first post. Couldn't resist. I love a good blues radio channel online and wanted to recommend the blues channel at wglt.org. Best single blues channel I've found and I've listened to a bunch. Anyone else listen to this one? earl

Best values in pipe tobaccos - and where to buy

I'd agree that Stokkebye, C&D, and SG are perhaps the best tobaccos for the $-good quality and fairly reasonable price-though lotsa luck finding any SG in the US in bulk anymore. Will say, however, got my SG-when I got it-for $26-$30 per pound and can get C&D for just over $30 per pound. earl

Confused about Petersons (and other stuff)

Peterson 999 shapes, especially when complemented with a silver band are really attractive. I have only 1 999, though not that 1. It's a chubbier version sans band from the 70's- a Dublin and London which I actually bought from a board member here a few years back and remains 1 of my favorite...

    C&D Recommendations

That 1 is nice. Right now I'm enjoying a slight variation of that blend that C& D produces-Virginia Gentleman with oriental substituting for the perique. This is about my favorite burley blend. earl

    Chacom Pipes?

Only own 1, a Mogardo-1/4 bent smooth acorn with boxwood shank extension, bought about 5 years ago off the bay for less than $20. Nice looker, particularly with the unque lines of the stem. Smokes just fine. earl

    On Petersons

Yes, PB, Mr. Clean Magic Eraser is great at taking off oxidation. After removal I use the Walker Briar Works carnuba wax and the stems come looking as good as I've seen after someone works on a stem with power equipment. If you're a fan of classic styles with metal adornment, particularly...

    Vodka

Just picked up a Polish vodka I had never heard of-Sobieski. Made with rye I believe. Very nice stuff. I also like Svedka, but like this better. earl

    My Weight Loss

Good on ya. Last summer, due to a cardiac problems, was forced into a diet change. Went lower fat and, though I only mininimized fat, and didn't necessarily lower the amount of food I consumed, I, nevertheless lost 40+ pounds without increasing my exercise. So, it seems, it's all about the fat...
