    Pipe smoking in Seoul

Hey Brewdude. If I'm not mistaken its at Craftworks Brewhouse in Itaewon (I read about your brewery via a link in a previous thread...being from the PNW and an aspiring brewer myself of course I was intrigued). Itaewon is a bit of a jaunt from Hongdae where I am staying but get this...a...

    Pipe smoking in Seoul

For the last few days I have been in Seoul attending a Google Education Summit. Where I live is actually 3 hours away on the East coast in a mountain/coastal town called Sokcho. As far as I know there is only 3 pipe smokers there...me, myself and I. Although I have been smoking a pipe now for...

    4N's Prairie Wind

Pulled this one out of the back of the cabinet this morning where it had been hiding for well over a year. Sometime a couple of years ago I filled an empty old BBF tin with it, wrapped it in some elastic bands and forgot about it. I remember at that time I really enjoyed the tin note and found...

    Curious to know...

The thing I find appealing about the Canadian shape is there is more wood on view to appreciate. I've also wondered why they are not more expensive than other shapes because I would imagine that the most expensive material in the construction of a pipe would be briar. I guess you could argue...

    Curious to know...

Nice pipe Ontario! And being from BC I can appreciate the logger association with the pipe. Trying to imagine cutting timber all day with a pipe in my boot. People were made of different fiber then I guess. As a patriotic Canadian I have to get a Brigham at some point. I've always liked the...

    Curious to know...

Does anybody know how the "Canadian" pipe shape got its title? Was it a popular shape in Canada? Introduced by a Canadian carver? Why is it called a "Canadian"? Also, does anyone else find it ironic that Brigham, the quintessential Canadian pipe company, doesn't have any Canadian shaped...

    DR PLUMB

I own a few. One is a full bent Apple (might be from their Dinky line...unfortunate name). The other is a bent billiard with a rather long stem. Both of them are excellent though I don't use the bent billiard much because it is too long to fit in my pouch.

    Jameson in the morning

Bought a bottle of Jameson. First time having seen it available at the local supermarket here. Didn't really like it neat as I tend towards a more heartier fare like Chivas. But I threw a splash in my morning coffee and wow...what a discovery. Mixes perfect with a cup of Joe. I'm sure many...

    pipe sightings in pop culture

Pipe smokers and the odd pipe shop are all over the place in the original Curious George books by H.A. Rey. Rey himself was an inveterate pipe smoker so I guess he liked to put a bit of himself in those books. Having a 4 year old son at home I have an omnibus of the original works that I...

    The jury's out

Hey Stick...funny, SL was the first lat mixture I tried too. I can recall vividly the first time opening it having no idea what an "English Mixture" meant. The smell of that was unlike anything I expected. I wasn't about to smoke it at that moment so I put the lid back on and thought "What...

    Well, I finally did it!

I hear you Brewdude. Landlines have been usurped by cell phones in Korea...can't even get one any more. And as for the cell-phone often I will let it die on Friday and not re-charge it again until Monday morning. It bugs my wife a bit but to me, just knowing that I am unreachable to the rest...

Are you Tricking or Treating tonight?

Halloween is not widely observed in Korea, so no. But being that I am at a Canadian school located in Korea we will be celebrating it in my school with a haunted gymnasium and costume contest. Foreign teachers have brought Halloween to Korea over the years to the point where costumes and...

    Spoof musical stories

Hey Brewdude I always liked those kind of shows. Spinal Tap was pretty funny and found you have to watch it a few times to pick up everything like their cold sore outbreaks etc..I also liked Bad News...a spoof of a British metl band (worth seeing). I remember watching The Ruttles with Eric...

    St Bruno match suggestion?

Thanks Blackhorse. I checked them out and it seems reasonable. I may just go that route. I haven't read a bad review yet of St. Bruno and by the sounds of it is something I would like. Maybe I will start with a couple pouches just to make sure it actually gets here. I noticed they sell many...

    St Bruno match suggestion?

So some threads I found say MacBaren's ODF is a very close match because of the dark-fired. Then others say that Bosun Cut plug is because the toppings are very similar. One bloke on a thread claims mixing the two together results in a pretty close match. That being the case it makes much more...

Do You Have A Daily Smoke?

Best Brown Flake would be my everyday. At least it is these days. I tend to fill up a pouch with a tobacco and smoke that exclusively till the pouch runs out. So my everyday tobacco changes every 10 or 12 days.

    St Bruno match suggestion?

From what I understand tobacco is really expensive in UK so I wouldn't want to put any one out. There is nothing Korean that one would want in a trade. Kimchi perhaps? Ha Ha.

    St Bruno match suggestion?

So the anglophile in me suddenly has a hankering to try St. Bruno. Unfortunately it seems impossible to acquire out here in Korea. Which GH blend do some of you experts feel is the closest match. Reading TR it seems like every blend by GH gets compared to either Condor or St. Bruno but if I...

    Your late evening unwind smoke...

It changes nightly. At the moment it is a muggy but cool evening as I sit on the rooftop of my apartment overlooking the town and sea. I'm spiping a tall dacquari and having a Curivari cigar. Fine indeed.Last night it was Royal Yacht and a homebrewed ceylon iced tea. Tomorrow...who knows.
