    What Are You Reading?

I worked for one of the Post break-up companies, Standard Oil of Indiana, when I got out of college. Rockefeller was an interesting and amazing man; complex yet down to earth.

    New look for BoB?

Hey, I like the look and the changes will smooth out, they always do.

Where did you start...and where did it lead?

I'm another one of those fellows who started pipe smoking in the early 1970's, probably late '71 or early '72 in my college years. Over the next decade and a half I accumulated four pipes and smoked aros that I picked up at the occasional visit to a B&M, of which the nearest was 70 miles away...

    What Are You Reading?

That was a good one. A lot to take in, what people are capable of.

    What Are You Reading?

I'm reading Raymond Chandler's novels. I finished "The Big Sleep", his first novel, and have started on "Trouble is My Business," a collection of short stories, published in magazines, before The Big Sleep. Next up is "Farewell My Lovely." I can't help but hear Marlowe in Humphrey Bogart's voice.

    How was your weather today?

That looks wonderful. I'm more of a mountain guy myself, probably due to living in Kansas, it's a long ways to the beach. With limited beach experience, I always think of it more idealized than it turns out. I forget about the ability of sand to find its way to places you don't want sand and...

    1st day of class....

Before we started back live, the preaching to the empty pews was getting tiresome, to say the least. Now, preaching to the masked congregation is sometimes too humorous if I let myself wander down that pathway. Strange times!

    Why?

One of the mysteries of pipe smoking and, I suppose, why most of us end up with many more pipes than we need. To the OP's point, a bent apple and straight billiard are two different animals regardless if they look alike in terms of finish. But I'm afraid even if we're talking two of the same...

    Why?

When you say "Smokes like crap" Conrad, what do you mean exactly? Draws hard? Gurgles? Tastes weird? Etc? Lots of ways to define crap in the pipe world, therefor lots of possible answers.

    New pipe rack

Thanks! I think the 2" makes perfect sense; no reason to crowd the pipes. I'm thinking I'll build a 40 pipe cabinet rather than a 48, that should compensate for most of the additional width without making the overall width too ungainly. Or, I could add an extra rack and make it a 50 pipe...

    New pipe rack

Very good work on that rack! I've been thinking about building a pipe cabinet as I have a cabinet with the same problem as your rack, everything a bit close. If you don't mind my asking, what is your center-to-center measurement on your pipe rests?

LiZiQi - a truly beautiful thing

Amazing. She never breaks a sweat. I would look like I wallowed in a pig sty if I did half the stuff she does.

    First RD Pipe

Ron posted a pipe for sale that finally pushed me over the edge.  I've looked longingly at his pipes since he returned to carving but was never out of PAD purgatory with my Social, Menu, and Financial Advisor.  I decided this was the time to ask for forgiveness rather than permission (she would...

Welcome. I'm not from Buffalo, but I live in the land of the Buffalo, the High Plains. I've been through Buffalo a few times; pretty country.

    What Are You Reading?

Just last evening I finished Grant, by Ron Chernow (see my post above). As it turns out, the actual reading pages are "only" 956 pages. The remainder are pictures, acknowledgments, and chapter notes. It was quite a read. Grant was arguably our greatest war time general and one of our better...
