It doesn't get more drug store than this...

Great choice. I'm smoking ERRd in a 194??? KW handmade as I type. BTW, obviously, you didn't get the memo, did you? We now use "legacy smokers" rather than 'drug store'. :lol!:

    OTC Blends

JP, many use OTC to differentiate those tobaccos which were, and some still are, readily available from a number of sources, like drugstores, supermarkets, shop n'gos, rather than the renamed and over-priced blends from B&Ms.. The term is a little more descriptive, I think, than 'drugstore'...

    Edgeworth Ready Rubbed

I think that you'll enjoy the Sugar Barrel. It's really not as sweet or cased as the name suggests, and the cut is rougher than the standard Middleton product. Burns cleanly and evenly, too.

    Interesting Flavors

JP's probably not too far off. Some blenders use acetic acid as a humectant, which is the characteristic 'ketchup' aroma. That may be the source of the aroma. Or, you can stop storing your tobacco in used potato chip bags. Seal-top baggies are cheap enough.

    Sunday Evening Smoke

Just finished some Irish Flake in a Stevenson, and I am loading ERRd in a new-to-me KW 095B with a clear plastic stem. Hopefully, this will slide me into the 11:00PM news. If not, there's more ERRd, and another pipe.

    Cheesecake!!

No, JP. It has to be banana pudding with lots of vanilla wafers on the edge of the bowl. Or fried apple pies, fried in Crisco, really crisp and greasy.

Ok, you asked for it!........John Middleton's WALNUT

"...Wife is starting to complain about all the Walnut tubs crowding her spare closet........ I told her that I was going to have to go through my other celler to make room for more. You can imagine the look on her face when I told her that. She just doesn't understand the probable consequences...

    What are you smoking?

Funny thing, Jason. I had a bowl of OJK just before I had my current bowl of ERRd, using the same pipe, an old Charlesgate billiard. Great interplay of the flavors, although I tend to avoid this practice for more than three pipes. It's hell when you can't sleep.

    Prayers for my brother

We will include your brother on our prayer list at church. You have to have and show faith. I've had two attacks, in 2001 and in 2004, and I know that prayers got me through. Please keep us informed of his condition.

    New Year's Traditions

Actually, the drink is "slivovitz", distilled from plums or grape must. Kerosene tastes better and burns less going down. Our family has a melting pot of Eastern European traditions. My mother was Croatian/Slovenian/Romany and my father was Polish. My wife's parents were Polish and White...

    The Holidays Are Officially Over

White Castle burgers are how you know that God has a sense of humor, but they are good going down, especcially for breakfast after a night of adult beverages. Sadly, PB is right; you only rent them.

    C&D Purple Cow

It was blended to ensure that the cigar leaf was present but not intrusive. Soft, like a mother's kiss :D . Many of the other cigar blends, and I'm thinking Billy Budd, are a stout combination of cigar leaf and latakia, but in Purple Cow the burley softens the impact.

Original Rum and Maple Blend No. 53

I regret that I had never purchased it before. I really like it a lot. To me it really is a lot like a straight VA. even though it has Burley in it. Funny thing, another one of my favorites, too. Almost anything that the old Larus Bros manufactured was on my shelves, including the long gone...

    What are you listening to

After reading Brother Vito's hobbling down Memory Lane (Moby Grape? Neil Schon? whose best work I would assert was with Santana), I dredged up tthe first Airplane album. figuring that if the New Year's going to depress me, why not with the Airplane?

    New To the Group

RevJay: Really good to see you here, too. A true pipesmoker and a good friend, almost seems redundant somehow.
