The calm before the real cold weather comes

Yeah, we had the rev' up of that storm, single digits with 50 mph winds and 10 - 12" of snow after all was said and done. Last night's snow "removal" was a bad joke - plowing forward blindly as the snow blasted back in my face, no way to know if any progress was made until I looked back. I...

The calm before the real cold weather comes

I'm also a New Englander, though one from the south in western Mass, who also smokes outside only. Although our winters aren't quite as severe as Maine's, they're fine competitors. Anyway, I usually limit my lengthy smokes of an hour or more to when the temps are in the 20's. I set up a nice...

    Made another chimney...

Beautiful, simply BEAUTIFUL! I love my McClelland and Samuel Gawith flakes above all else (can't forget Stonehaven!), and a pipe like that is just the ticket. The only true Chimney pipes I have are 2 Peterson 2016 POTY's, a smooth for Dan Limerick Virginia Flake and a Sandblasted one for...

    Irregular Cake

Slowroll, I think you've hit the nail squarely on the head. That makes perfect sense, especially when I think of how I'm smoking my pipe; I'm in the long process of getting extensive dental work (implants), so I just can't clench like the old days, The pipe just kiinda "hangs" from my teeth and...

    Irregular Cake

Once in awhile, I'll notice that the cake on a pipe will be built up irregularly, i.e. thicker on around 270 degrees of the bowl, very much thinner on the remaining. Usually it's the far side of the bowl which remains thinner, but that's not exclusive. I must stress that this is NOT the case...

    Rossi Pipes

I have a couple of Rossi princes'. They're fine smokers, and yes, they have vulcanite stems which I do prefer over acrylic.

    Bought a stanwell

smokingpipes.com had a "vintage" Stanwell blast a couple months ago. I bought the 2003 pipe of the year, designed by Tom Eltang, for just around a hundred bucks. Smokes like a dream and looks cool. It's a beater with class.

Never really thought I'd live to see this day

Doggone it, yer right! I just take everything so personally because that's how the nuns taught me how to live. Regrets and self-flagellation, ad infinitum. So now let's turn it back on the OP. We want those promised pics or else, buster!

Never really thought I'd live to see this day

Pics? Well, let me first say that besides being more concerned with shooting them (OKI, and drooling over them) than taking pictures of them, this was back in the day when there were phone booths. I didn't own a phone that was capable of being a camera until they were gone for at least 7 or 8...

    Brrr

What a great place for pipin' (and fly fishin' and LIVIN')!  I always thought somehow I'd grow old by the ocean.  Well, I' m 63, I guess I got a few years to make good on that adolescent fantasy premonition................

    Piping Quirks

Here's something from a completely different angle and it may very well sound completely off-the-wall, and thus be completely WRONG, but.........here goes; Your use of the word "sizzling" combined with smoking at the bottom of the bowl gave rise to this; is the bowl very hot when this happens...

    Some cool pipes from Dagner

For what it's worth, I've been buying Dagner pipes off and on for the past 3 years or so. They're cheap, mass-produced pipes that are just handy pipes to have as travel pipes, tobacco test pipes. or whatever. They all smoke really well. I'll also say this much about that civil war smooth...

    Cracked open the cased set

My first love was the prince shape, then the Dublin, which is still running strong, but as of a couple years ago the Lovat became the new kid on the block that is right up there with the Dublin as my all time favorite. And yes, I DO love that beauty you're smoking there, Sir Banjo!

    Pipestud's website

...and I'm jumping on that bandwagon as well! Although, let me amend that just a bit by saying that I have to admit that Jim Inks is truly my primary arbiter, with pipestud a very close second.

    Pipestud's website

The gentleman who wears the moniker "Pipestud" on the Tobaccoreview.com site has his own website and doggone it I lost track of it and I was wondering if any of you brothers might know what the heck it is. For all I know, Pipestud may very well be a Brother himself! At any rate, I'd appreciate...

Never really thought I'd live to see this day

Don't ever get me started on having to sell off guns. 15 or so years ago? Let's just say that SOME of them were 4 Colt Gold Cups, 4 Colt SAA's (action tuned by the late Bob Munden), Smith 41, 29, 19, and I'm gonna stop there because the tears are already starting. Oh yes, All wore custom...

    How Dedicated Are You?

I'm most like Lonecoyote in my smoking/pipe dealings; one blend for each pipe. It gives me a good excuse to (a) buy a new pipe and (b) buy a new, untried tobacco. Those of you with mathematical inclinations can easily spot the geometrical progression I've set up for myself with this "system"...

    Dunhill Shell Briar Rubdown

Most of my meager collection of Dunhills are Shell Briars (4) and only one is starting to have a LITTLE of that ruby red peeking through in a couple places, the rim and just below in one spot. And Lonecoyote, I tend to agree that these seem to be the best smokers of the lot, although my Chestnut...
