    The high price of tobacco?

That's interesting about the difference between the States and Europe. It still seems that way back in the day smaller pipes were more common. From some of the really old estate lots I've gotten, the pipes do tend to be smaller.

    The high price of tobacco?

THIS! I recently did a video about how I like smaller pipes for the most part. Though some blends taste and smoke better in bigger bowls, stronger blends and especially pressed tobaccos go in smaller pipes. This time of year I almost only smoke while on my short commute, so it's either DGT or a...

    The high price of tobacco?

Maybe some of you older guys can confirm, but haven't pipe bowls also gotten larger? Did Savinelli 320s with 1" wide bowls exist back when Dunhill still made tobacco?

    The high price of tobacco?

You've hit the nail on the head. I can pretty much buy the same malt, yeast, and hops that any craft brewer uses to make world-class beer. But that's not the same as growing my own barley and hops and malting them myself, etc. I've toasted brown and amber malt in the oven, but even that was from...

    The high price of tobacco?

I think brewing is much easier than growing tobacco. It's not hard to brew decent beer at home on the stove, but there is a lot of work and needed equipment to do VAs right, smoke-cure latakia, steam-press a flake, etc. Brewing excellent beer takes some skill and attention, but making decent...

Baby New Year Needs a Spanking!!:::Jan BOB Bombing Run

Baby food jars come in great sizes for small samples and even for larger samples of flakes! The largest size jars can hold 100g of MacBaren flakes pretty well. They also hold a whole 1.5 oz Sutliff tin (I hate their oversize tins). You're months away from those, though.

Had some of the "Unobtainiums" fave 'baccy

Wait a minute! Why would he use goopy aro-sauce for brewing?!?! :lol!:

Opinions on MacBaren Acadian Perique please

I've only had a small bit of it yet, but I'm not sure it's something I'll stock. It was good, not not great. This is all tentative, I need to smoke the rest of your sample. Thanks again!

Well congrats on that set-up! I'm just looking forward to not running ice bottles in and out of my ferm chamber!

Had some of the "Unobtainiums" fave 'baccy

Nice! How much Penzance does that cost? I'm brewing on the smaller, much more ghetto scale, but I'm pretty happy with what I've been able to accomplish with limited space and financial outlay. When I graduate and move, I'm hoping to step up to a large BIAB setup to maximize time and get a few...

What are you looking to add to your set-up, if I may ask?

Do Spirit Toppings (rum, etc.) Ghost? (Pipe Dedication)

Back on topic: BD says no ghost, DaB says cognac ghosts, and Monbla says his input is not good because his tongue is shot. It looks like we've got a tie.

Do Spirit Toppings (rum, etc.) Ghost? (Pipe Dedication)

Funny, I thought there tomatoes in ketchup! ;)

Do Spirit Toppings (rum, etc.) Ghost? (Pipe Dedication)

So I take it you like the fruit ghosting, Monbla. Tomato is a fruit, you know! :D It seems like I should be OK smoking these in the same pipes I would anyway, which is what I plan on doing. MacB's Navy Flake will go in a pipe I've smoked VA-Bur Cavendish blends in to good effect!

Do Spirit Toppings (rum, etc.) Ghost? (Pipe Dedication)

If a navy flake is composed of VA and Perique, but has a noticeable rum topping, would you smoke it in your VAPer pipe or dedicate a separate pipe? Would you keep one pipe for spirit-topped blends regardless of constituent tobaccos (GLP Navigator has Kentucky), or have separate pipes for...

    how many blends?

I've got a lot of stuff around that I haven't tried as well. Sometimes I 'invest' in tobacco that I think may be valuable with age to fill out an order. Say I've got $75 worth of stuff I want to buy, and shipping runs $12 or so. That brings my total to $87, but if I spend $100 I get free...

Video With Some Rustication of an Old Estate Pipe

The pipe also got a reaming and retort (I don't remember if I mentioned that). After the Red Cake, the GH&Co Bright CR Flake really shone!

I just tried GL Pease Six Pence

Well, since you don't like it, I'll trade you something for the rest of your tin!
