    tobacco makeing qestion

Raw, "natural" tobacco is quite plain and harsh, I'm told. The curing, processing, flavoring, blending, and aging are the province of alchemists and magicians with proprietary secrets. Voodoo plays a role. That's all I know.

80 degrees today, what to smoke in the summertime?

I tend to drift toward cigars, as though an invisible hand directed by Satan were controlling my impulses. That is in addition to regular pipe smoking. Wonder why that is? I have little interest in stogies during winter's blizzard and blight.

    SWR opinions?

I agree with your SWRA appraisal. I smoke it every day. I have tried to like the regular SWR, but just can't do it. It's surely higher in nicotine than the other, but I'm sure you can handle it. It's not Five Brothers, Big 'n Burley, or other nicotine bombs. I just don't like the (lack of)...

    Sailor 1911 Ivory - 14k Music Nib

I love this stub nib on the Eco! It's friggin' perfect for my writing style. No learning curve whatsoever. The effect perfectly matches a dip pen I used to use with a Speedball nib. Now the question is whether the Sailor will perform as well as this inexpensive pen. (I have a hunch it will.)

    Wardrobe Up to Snuff?

They look like flaming a**holes, and neither one too happy about it.

    Unique Blends

I like most, but especially the Acadian Perique--but it doesn't have the distinctive MacBaren perfume referred to above. If you want that, try the Scottish Blend, another favorite of mine.

    Unique Blends

Our posts crossed. Yep, that's a good one to try if you want "unique." You might want to read up on what to expect before purchase. I fell in love with it at first, especially in a cob. Welcome to the club, btw.

    Unique Blends

Rattray's Exotic Orange. Vincent Manil's Semois. I consider MacBaren's standard blends to be unique because of what seems to be a distinctive honey-like topping. There's no mistaking them for something else.

    Ever Smoke Chewing Tobacco?

I tried it decades ago with the aforementioned Mail Pouch, which doesn't have as much sugar as most. It would dry out if left in the open. I got it to burn, but the taste was horrible. Wasn't even close to any tobacco I've ever had. Well, except maybe Tambalaka, or whatever it's called. Anyone...

    What are you smoking?

Escudo in a Conway (?) Top Drawer smooth straight apple, whatever a Conway is. Decent quality pipe, great grain, made in England.

    Sailor 1911 Ivory - 14k Music Nib

Ordered an Eco 1.1 from Goulet. Really great idea, trying a cheapo first. What's with the pic above? Are they holding the pen at 90 degrees, or don't I know what the hell a stub is? I was first attracted to the Italic, but nibs.com said they require more experience, dexterity, skill, whatever...

    Sailor 1911 Ivory - 14k Music Nib

That is a most generous offer, David. I base my wish for a stub only on its description, not experience, so perhaps actually trying one would be the intelligent thing to do.   Yes, nibs.com has an excellent rep, but that pen is not in stock there. I wondered how long it takes to receive one...

    Marty Pulver's web site

I'm surprised that address works at all; something happened several months ago and it was changed to http://pulverspriorbriar.com/index.html. "Sherlock's Haven" or whatever his b&m was will also redirect to there. He addresses this issue in the link above, which should be the home page.

Them is cool pens. I've been tempted for years to buy one with a stub. May I ask your source? A fair number of pen emporia don't sell those, I've noticed.

    Wardrobe Up to Snuff?

Ever been in a quandary over what to wear at your next board meeting? I have. I cry in my pillow all night, wondering if my attire will make a good impression at the next meeting, and aid in the illusion that I know what I'm doing there. Rising to speak one time, I remember, I had hardly got a...

    Ghosting

 That's saying a lot, considering the tendencies of most of the rogues here. I remember long ago meeting a guy who told me he owned over 300 pipes. I thought he was insane. I owned two pipes at the time, both Dunhills. Now, I don't need a reason to buy another pipe--and I'll bet you don't...

    Large Softy Pipe Bits

Judging by the size of most Boswell pipes, they'd be fools to offer anything but large ones. Just sayin'.

    Secrets for a happier marriage

Funny how a container of warm brown spit will gross out some women of a sensitive nature. Remember to floss.

Hey - hold my beer and watch this....

Cobra bite to the balls really smarts! (So I've heard.) Betcha the snake has a higher i.q. than its handlers. I once tried to burn out a piece of crap cheapo freehand basket pipe by lighting it and holding it out of my car window while driving. It wouldn't burn out--the walls were too thick and...

    What are you smoking?

Big 'n Burley in a Pete Rosslare 05. This stuff immediately goes for the throat, then the ol' haid. I may have to lie down on the couch.
