What constitutes a high grade pipe?

Smart man. It's a non-objective term. Feel free to add your hallucinations just as I have.

    SOTD: Shave of the day

I got the Atlas, as pictured. Spiral handle versus straight diamond whatever it's called. 15% off, couldn't refuse. Call me weak.

What constitutes a high grade pipe?

This sounds simplistic, but with me, it's the grain. Workmanship, materials, engineering, and artistry are a given. Only a pipe with those attributes plus superior grain is a "high-grade." For example, I don't consider most Castellos to be "high grade" when the grain is pedestrian, which is...

    SOTD: Shave of the day

SOTD: Razor: Above the Tie open-comb R2 Blade: Astra Platinum Pre-shave oil: Maggard Sweet Orange Soap: Cella Brush: Maggard synthetic Aftershave: D.R. Harris Windsor Aftershave Milk I had some misgivings before purchase, but these ATT razors are superior in all respects and worth the money...

    Shanken Shanks Machine-Mades

First it was cigarettes. Throw 'em under the bus, we're pipe smokers. Or cigar smokers. Judging by the way the manufacture and use of tobacco products has been defended for the last few decades, it was only a matter of time before some appeaser made another concession to our masters, in this...

    Sailor 1911 Ivory - 14k Music Nib

You know, fountain pens are really cool, useful, pretty, and very collectible--some mouth-wateringly so. But I like this Twizzby Eco mit der 1.1 stub pointy thing so much that I no longer have a hankering for anything else, perhaps forever. Thank youse, Blackhorse, for saving me mucho...

    What movie are you watching?

About to watch a weak man redeem himself in This Land is Mine, with Charles Laughton, one of my absolute top favorite actors, directed by Jean Renoir. World War II drama, with Maureen O'Hara to look at.

    Wow. Regina Scarlatta

Dammit Idlefellow--if that's really your name--you just ruined it for me. Seriously. :fpalm:

    Name three blends that...

Kramer's Father Dempsey comes to mind. Can't recall it ever being mentioned here. Two more?...too hard.

    9mm pipe

Not what you asked, but I just smoke them without anything in the cavity. I've had not good but great results doing so. Kind of a calabash effect, I'm thinking. Or imagining. But it works very well for me--so much so that whether a pipe is 9 mm or not is not a factor in purchasing.

    New computer advice

Kind of like cars, I reckon. Every car on the road is a used car.

The death of Real antique fairs

The only antiques around here that aren't junk are heavy items like oak furniture, probably because of shipping costs and ebay. I think today's dealers generally are highly aware of the value of this and that, and that includes pipes. It seems that the problem is more a case of the demise of the...

    Mcclelland score

Ditto. But I suspect the OP now regrets stepping into a hassle. However, if there's any "regular" Virginias (#24, #25, etc.) floating around, I have an interest.

    What are you smoking?

Solani Aged Burley Flake in a Leonardo da Vinci Three-Sail chubby something.

    New computer advice

I just buy lower-end Dells for a desktop whenever the screaming need arises. Costs about $400. Monthly payments are available, I think. Never had any problems with them, other than obsolescence. Sure do miss Windows XP though. :(

    So many Cigars

I'd suggest sticking with the established name brands like Fuente, Romeo & Juliet, Padron, etc.--and even with those I'd suggest sticking with their standard versions. A lot of makers are going for "bolder" versions of this and that, or variations on an established blend, and as far as my...

When You Gotta Go You Gotta Go!

What took them so long? Old economic truth: subsidize something and you'll get more of something that needs subsidizing.
