    The Big Move

Been here a couple of weeks... home is still a mess, work is chaos, but I am happy to have missed the snow in Chicago this week. I'm off today, so I might head with the girls to the beach.

    The Big Move

Just settling in at the new place.... still a big pile of boxes in what will be the dining room. Moved a thousand miles from Chicago (back) to the Charleston area. A lot has changed in the 8 or so years we've been gone. Since I left, my parents and sister both moved here, so I have family close...

    GLP Telegraph Hill (VaPer)

I love Zombie Threads. There is such great info on our board; however, I always wander where some of the guys who aren't active anymore went off to. It'd be good to hear a ping off their hulls just so we know they are still floating.

    How was your weather today?

I just road tripped from IL to SC. It started snowing at the IL/IN state line and didn't stop til I hit South Carolina. No accumulation on the roads, but a bizarre first day of spring.

    Surprise!

Careful... if someone says "Borkum Riff" 3 times, Kyle shows up.

    Bulging Tin

Bulging comes from fermentation... your tobacco us aging! In the short term, no problems whatsoever; in the long term, the seals on the "pop top" tins can fail. Keep your eye out for rust. To be on the safe side, jarring up your tobacco in a mason or ball jar is effective. Or just smoke it!

Best B&Ms in LA and the Valley

I read the title of your post and I thought you meant Lower Alabama.

    What are you snuffing?

WoS SM 500. Cough drops in powder form. Eep.

PSA - my brewery is under new ownership!

Long ticket times aren't the enemy. My secret was to keep the guests engaged. Time passes without them knowing. Also, people don't mind waiting an extra minute or two if it means they are assured of getting fresh, real food... it also helps if they have full drinks! Let us not forget a real...

    Beeswaxing a natural pipe

Rubbing room temp wax on the Briar will cause enough friction to get a film to start building up, then you want to polish with a soft cloth or the like. Buff to a nice shine and you are good to go. I'm prefer "nose oil" myself. Rub your finger on the side of your nose and rub it in like a...

The rumor must be correct !

Tobacco was deregulated in 2004 and the payouts expired in 2014. The number of acres has decreased steadily over and since this period. I think this might be more causal than weather.

The rumor must be correct !

Popularity of blends is hard to gauge. We talk about certain ones that appeal to our educated palates, and turn our nose up at overly-topped aromatics, but my guess is we are off on our assumptions. Compare to beer: if you go by the forums and review sites, Hoppy IPAs and Imperial Stouts top...

    Winter Olympics

I've long been a fan of the Olympics, both summer and winter. The NBC Sports app has live streams of all the hockey, curling, practice runs, etc and most of it is commercial free. I normally get off work around midnight, so there is plenty of live stuff for me to watch before bed because of...

So what age exactly is a Senior Citizen?

I believe there is a similar concept in Japan: a treasured piece of pottery that has broken is repairs with gold to celebrate rather than deny the flaws.

New Cigar club in Chicago burbs

Was just driving through downtown Downers Grove yesterday and saw a new Cigar club and shop called "The Place." I have yet to check it out in person, but I will report back. Their webpage points out their lounge and private lockers. No info on how they look upon pipes, nor what dues are. I...
