    JackKnife Plug!

OK, I can't roll up my pants any higher. JKP on eBay alf*kinready? Who are these type A people and what can we put in their pipes to calm them down?

^ Yup, what he said. Bravo! Cut this one out and tape it on your wallet.

Where are SG and Esoterica tobaccos?

I loved Penzance; the stuff I really liked I bought (and smoked within a month or two) between 2000 and 2004. The tins I got in '05-'08 really disappointed me in 2010. They were frequently scarce then too, as I recall, which suckered me into stocking up. If it weren't for the mystique, I'd...

Where are SG and Esoterica tobaccos?

I recently sold off my Penzance tins that I had stocked up on a few years back because I disliked how it aged; it developed a burned-tire note and lost a lot of flavor, especially its lighter fragrances and tastes. Not every tobacco improves, in my experience. I hope the recipients enjoy old...

    Stuck bit

OK, I suppose this is the appropriate place to ask. I bought an old british push-in stem Kaywoodie pipe whose stem will not budge. My usual trick of putting it in the freezer and warming the shank by hand did nothing. It refuses all reasonable torque and pull and I'm nervous about getting...

    Stem cleaning

I use 3 products (mostly related). The cheapest is generic rubbing compound, found near the car polishes in stores. Two good products made in Germany: Flitz, also used as a silver polish and priced accordingly, and Simichrome polish, my go-to for regular maintenance, which is toothpaste-like...

    Dr Grabows?

I'll bet a Grabow was the first (tobacco) pipe of many, if only because they were and still are sold in chain drugstores. My first pipe was a bent Grabow back when Nixon was president and pipe smokers were common. I didn't know about resting my pipe; it was the only one I had and I smoked 2-3...

    Interesting Peterson on Ebay today.

What really bugs me more than it should is when the seller rotates a bent stem 180 deg so that the pipe is like a "U". Gawd, that annoys me! Are they trying to look dumb and vulnerable? Subconscious contempt? Actual ignorance? (and why does it bug me so?) I love eBay, especially the sellers...

    Foul Tobaccos

Someone wrote there of a bad or wrong tin. I know it's a bother, but I would have considered returning it. Craig would have wanted to check. That said, burleys are a chancy tobacco. I'm 50/50 myself. There must be a wide range of qualities out there. I like both Barbary Coast and good ol'...

    Foul Tobaccos

Never tried it, but one time on the road I lit up a sample from Tinderbox that turned out to be their exhumation of Mixture 79. I extinguished it with soapy spit and pipe and all went out the window. (nasty pipe, too)

    McClelland Dark Star

I've been working on a long-forgotten tin I found this week, tinned '05, open prolly since '07. Dried and brittle, smelling of acetic and lactic acids, it would normally have been tossed. That tragedy was averted after reading your posts. When cut to bark-mulch (1/16") with a scissors (thank...

    Royal Court Pipes

ok, here goes... I normally would dislike the style, but form follows function. [/img] Hey, that was fun.

    Royal Court Pipes

I'm puffing a pipe marked "G Court", I'm assuming is Glen Court. Pipedia had an incomplete reference to him and Royal Court Pipes. Anybody here familiar? I've wondered about this pipe for years. Only pipe I ever dedicated to one blend. GLP Barbary Coast: it is wonderful in this pipe.

    Rhodesian vs bulldog-

REALLY short bulldogs are Eskimos. They're "mushed?" (also ukeleles) http://www.glpease.com/Pipes/Shapes/Images/Ukulele.jpg

    Pipes Bizarres

Forgive me if this topic is a repeat, it didn't come up in a search: http://www.pipephil.eu/oddpipes/index.html While the text is french, the photos are entertaining to all. I wasted an hour there. My favorite: the California-ready, anti shrill-nazi-at-the-next-table- piece...

What shapes do you dislike the most?

I've enjoyed this thread. And yet no one has slammed the volcano: allow me. I dislike toothbender heavy pipes, swivel bit pocket pipes, pearly plastic or transparent bits (except amber), skaters, pickaxes, The Pipes, brylon (shiver), and yes, you'd think freehands wouldn't be so standardized...

    Greetings

I had hoped for something such as this board, and I finally stumbled on it. I have a companion who loves the smell of pipes and she pestered me into puffing regularly again. Over the years (since Nixon), I've accreted probably 10 pipes I really like and another dozen for occasional use and...
