Jim's MacBaren HH Bold Kentucky Review.

Yes Juan, It was very old Dark Strong Kentucky by Orlik. Sold for around $65 per tin a year ago.

Jim's MacBaren HH Bold Kentucky Review.

Thanks again for such a great personal review Jim. I assumed that the blend would be similar to what you described. Not for me. I even sold all of my Old Dark Fired and Dark Strong Kentucky that I had cellared by mistake. Medium flavored tobaccos are fine for this guy.

    Paid in Bourbon

You're gonna like it. I have a bottle here and it's the most different tasting bourbon I've ever drank. It took me a few glasses to acquire the taste but once you do you will appreciate it. High octane.

    For the Ashton lovers

David Field sold off the majority if not all of his collection through Rob Cooper (coopersark) on eBay over the past few years. The pipes were advertised as such and brought in more money than they were ever worth IMO. Whoever bought those pipes, and I know a few folks, they will NEVER get their...

Thanks Monbla, some interesting items there, especially about the years of no date stamp of which I had many. :D

Two Old Brits - Sasieni Moorgate & Barling's Special

If I recall the stems were not the same and the bowls were carved/rusticated for sure with a black finish. But they are great smokers. Many of these were made and sold by private smoke shops. I acquired many of these from the Owl Shop in New Haven, CT years ago.

Ever wonder how they shovel train tracks?

I watched the 25 minute movie of this, rescuing a train at the pass that was covered from an avalanche. Pretty incredible, and that the steam powered snow blowing locomotive was made in the 1920's. We need a couple of these in New England this year. LOL

Ripped From The Headlines Coffee Edition

I'll be damned if I'm going to pay $17 to $20 dollars a pound for coffee beans. I'll pay 3 times that for good tobacco but coffee never. Give me some good ole 8 o'clock whole bean, ground to powder and I'm a happy camper. Gevalia is a treat. Different strokes for different folks. I guess I'm...

Two Old Brits - Sasieni Moorgate & Barling's Special

Yes Al, I'll say that Barling is a keeper. :D @Speedy, the Old England pipes have the same smoking qualities as the top of the line Four and Eight dots. Just because they are a "second" line doesn't mean they aren't good smokes. AND they can be had for short money compared to all them dots...

    A couple of new Tinskys

Congrats on two fine specimens for sure. The GNARLY sandblast on that Oom Paul is magnificent. And the ring grain on the Canadian is to be envied. Both super pipes from the Master Tinsky.

    Air Pocket Method: An Anecdote

Since reading Dr. Fred Hanna's book I have tried this method of packing my pipes. It has given me more pleasure than any other method I have ever used. Why had I never thought of this process or heard of it before??? Thanks Fred. I didn't go back and read all of the posts in this thread so...

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY FISHNBANJO

Happy Birthday Sir. I know your birthday wish would be fishing on a special stream with a favorite cane rod. But that will have to wait a bit I'm afraid. especially with temps at minus 20 in Maine this morning. Keep warm with a good pipe will have to be the next best thing. Cheers.

Two Old Brits - Sasieni Moorgate & Barling's Special

Nice Grab there Al. That pre-trans Barling is a FANTASTIC pipe. Bent shaped Barlings are not that common and command a premium over most others. And that one looks to be in magnificent condition. Congrats.

Peterson pipes with wood inlay around the logo?

I have had several of those over the years. If I recall the ones that I bought were made in the 1980's. they are called "Briar Circle" stems. I don't know if any other info had been done on those particular stems, but they don't show up very often.

    Capstan Blue Flake

It's a difficult thing to get everyone to like certain blends because there is so much personal preference when it comes to taste. I have always enjoyed tobaccos that are somewhat one dimensional and could care less about what others think or like. Back before they stopped selling Capstan here...
