That's why you buy used Old Boy's like me. I got one for $20 and another for $30. Those prices are negligible in my opinion when it comes to a reliable lighter. I use Bics every now and then, but I prefer not to because they scorch too much.
For me, I've never bought from Gatlinburlier so it doesn't immediately affect me, but their site does seem a bit much when it comes to complaining about a given legislation.
Supposedly the establishment has been targeted as a "test case" for some form of legislation. They are currently unable to ship any form of pipe tobacco to those who order it online. Shipping tobacco is no longer tolerated under this supposed legislation.
Anyone know anything about this...
I visited the shop last December. I even picked up a pipe for my birthday. I didn't find the gentlemen running the shop too pleasing to talk to, so I did not stick around in the store longer than I had to.
I don't like Dunhills, at all really, but I did just see this one pop up on eBay. It's a birth-year pipe, too, but it's unfortunate I can't afford it. Shame, shame.
1986, for shame.
I decided to dig up that old message from Russ:
Q: "Hey Russ, Hope you are well. I am curious if leaving the tobacco inside the H&H cardboard tins ages it properly, or should I just transfer it over to jars? I've seen it discussed somewhat but wanted more clarity."
A: "It would depend on how...
I'd like to point out that this is probably similar to most non-aromatics when it comes to aging and what not. It's not a goopy topping, it's apparently fairly light, subtle even. It might be like some of Pease's creations under the Two Friends label, like English Chocolate (which is fantastic...
I so wish I was in the States to buy a couple of tins. I don't do aromatics often, but this one sounds right up my alley. 'Tis a shame I live in a part of the world where pipe tobacco is basically nonexistent.
Personally, I prefer Fryes. I am biased though. My great grandfather wore them, my grandfather wore them, and now I wear them. Every boot I've seen of theirs is made in the USA, including my own: http://www.thefryecompany.com/logan-cap-toe/d/80156C19135?CategoryId=201.
I've worn those books...
My PP tins must be older because they're exactly like GLP tins. In any case, Russ himself recommends aging those types of tins no longer than 3 years, and he still was not even sure about that when I talked to him last about it.
It has become a tradition for me to round up some photos of the pipes I bring back with me every time I go overseas. Seeing as I cannot bring all of my pipes, I usually narrow it down to 4 I have not brought yet and bring them. This, then, allows me ample time (at least a year) to get to know...
