I'll post a pic of an Ascorti I find quite desirable, which is rare for me: Nevertheless, I'd never pay the $400 asking price for it. It's been on eBay for about two years now, so something tells me no one else is willing to pay that for it either.

Since no one else has said it, antique places, at least in my experience, tend to overprice crappy pipes simply because they are pipes and think they are antique-ish. Not saying this place is doing it, but it sounds like the guy was trying to upsale you. Without pictures I cannot be totally...

Yeah, the high grade range is much more vast than that of low or mid grades.

Low end pipe makers are typically factory pipes, such as Savinelli, Peterson, Chacom, Comoy, etc. It does not necessarily mean they are bad pipes, just on the low end of the spectrum. For what it's worth, I have a Savinelli and Peterson that could compete with the best of them. High end pipe...

It's not just the business finish. The best series I ever saw from Ascorti was the Peppino series, though they sold at an affordable $140-150. That is about where Ascortis should be priced. You've been buying estate mostly lately, which means you've gotten good deals, but brand new there are...

Their aesthetics and quality match their price point. Again, that is my opinion. The newer Caminettos and Ascortis are not worth much more than $100, again my opinion, though my opinion on Caminetto is probably better than most, having owned dozens upon dozens of old and new Caminettos.

+1 I don't get it really. Pre-90s Caminettos are akin to the older ones, but after that they are, indeed, ghastly. I don't understand their or Ascorti's price tags either. Radice has a much more appealing style, IMHO. Our loss, though, is your gain, eklektos.
