    Mystery Pipe

Next time you go to the dentist, bring the pipe and ask them to shine a high-intensity ultra-violet light on the area in question. Just maybe, the original stamping might be revealed or become more visible/legible under a light source with a different wavelength.

    Pipe maintenance question

The last 1/3 of that soon-to-be-rank/ashy tobacco at the bottom of the bowl... imo.... ain't worth relighting 5-6 times and risking a charred/cracked heel or eventually, a burned out pipe. Briar is not fireproof. Hot flames concentrated within that small, restricted area at the bottom of the...

lockpicking - so much for those locks being worth the money

Select any lock.....and then use it to secure/protect "something" of value in New York City.

    New pipe smoker

Wow!....and welcome to this group of nice guys that will help you gently lose your pipe-ish virginity. Just ask, and we'll answer. The ride to knowledge of pipes, tobaccos, etc. will be pleasant, or, it might be confusing at first, but it's worth it in the end. You didn't ask but my most...

When I was young and foolish, what I thought would make me happy, didn't..... and I focused on all the wrong things. Time flies by. Life happens. I never married. Send in the clowns! Congratulations, to you both.... you're blessed.

    HELLO OUT THERE

Greetings and salutations from Da-Bronx/NYC. Be thankful you're where you are, and not here where I am. Grab a pipe, and seek some quiet solitude from this confusing, disordered world. Rest a while from Life's vexations in your self-generated peaceful silence. You earned it, I'm sure. Turn...

Question for those more learned than me currently

If.... I was in your situation/predicament, I would find a blend that contains the same tobaccos, try some of them out....even if the du jour blend(s) didn't contain the Latakia component. Then I'd buy 2 ounces of blending Latakia and add this "condimental tobacco" in dribs and drabs, until the...

    Binge-worthy TV shows?

Might've already been mentioned.... these two. I hope I'm not redundant, but I don't have the patience to read thru all 148 postings, listing recommendations, merits, demerits, yada, yada, yada...... So, my two cents: THE CHOSEN THE ALIENIST Definitely worth binging-watching. The first...

    Tamping and relighting

Yes... The fundamental things apply as time goes by. What you said....works for me, and I'm sure works for others. BUT....I do one additional step....after tamping, but before relighting, I invert my pipe, turn it upside down and dump the spent ashes out. Just tamp, and let gravity spill out...

    Ed Burak's Connoisseur Giants

Nice pipes. Even though I'm personally not really a big fan of full-bent pipes, I'd make an exception for a few of these. Burack certainly had his own style.

I need a case of DEPENDS! This is hilarious!

Tell us your country's Slang you use.

THE BIG FIL.....et al: I'm already pee-laughing. Perfect thread with morning coffee. I can't wait for others to post their comments, especially the derogatory idioms, raunchy slangs, funny terminology, local references, ethnic or otherwise. We are all adults, after all.

    What's your favourite Movie Soundtrack?

I could think of no other soundtrack that so perfectly, so beautifully, fit the movie and with just a few bitter-sweet refrains, evoked that whole, vintage era in which the story took place. The movie: "The Sting" -1973. Scott Joplin died in 1917, and finally got his long due recognition as...

    Ebay advice???

I have purchased a small number of pipes, usually estate pipes, off of eBay. I would proceed with caution. I can clean, restore, refinish, rejuvenate, estate pipes, but I cannot make or repair cracked/damaged stems, so, I pick only pipes that I can work on. I only bought a few new pipes off...

Talk to me about English blends

Very informative thread, loaded with information that I had forgotten long ago. This refresher course thread is great for both the newer and older pipe smokers. Sometimes, especially me, many of us "golden oldies" forget or don't care to remember what tobaccos are in what blend...when one...

    Greetings from upstate NY

Welcome. I live south of you, in New York City. Count your blessings that you don't live in New York City! Smoking a pipe is what kept me sane.

    Recipe corner

I also love reading thru home-brewed recipes.....especially "hybrid" mixtures that are primarily based on using two different, but commercially available, professionally blended/balanced, "named" blends. "Old Growlers" and "Haunted Forest" are two such examples. Easy to mix and easy to enjoy...

    New guy

Smoking a pipe since 1966, on and off, more-or-less. There were no "Pipe Forums" when I needed them back in the day. Now....thank God for 'em. There's always something new to learn, something new to see, new ideas to explore. Sit back, and enjoy the camaraderie with some world-wide kindred...
