Pipe smokers on TV & film

Loved the characters. We're American and had some difficulty with the accents so we used subtitles.

I want to hear more more put downs of corncob pipes

Your question shows you have a sense of humor. And that's more important here than the actual issue of corn cobs. I have two or three of them, as well as briars. After total destruction they all look the same.

    Tobacco as music?

As a classical musician myself, I have never thought of it that way, but it makes sense. As a burley man, I would associate burley with the darker richer tones, such as cello, bass, or bass clarinet. Turkish/Lat - not a specific instrument but rather an exotic styled piece, but not to listen to...

    Tweaking your "Meh" blends

True. However, I sometimes challenge myself to enjoy a tobacco that I don't care for. Captain Black for example. I try to perceive the taste pleasure in it, and actually find that it does have some redeeming quality. That puts it from the "meh" category into the acceptable category.

Thank you for that, and for the parenthesized clarification (my carelessness).

Not a smoking room, but the closest I have...

Best solution: convince wife to start smoking a pipe.

    Peterson question

I'm considering getting a Peterson pipe with the p-hole. Anyone know if it's easy to clean with an ordinary pipe cleaner?

I dismissed corncobs a long time ago but now I am feeling that I was wrong.

    Greeting From a Mile High

Welcome from Norco CA. I smoke both, each has its own thing about it. Also, one of my favorite pipe tobaccos has a bit of cigar leaf Per bowl, a very interesting mixture.

Sorry to reply so late, I'm not very adroit at navigating this site. Hoping your arm is better. I'm mostly classical.

    My blend (my mixture?)

I've been enjoying a mixture of my own for about a year, so I'd like to share it with you guys. I'd say it's an English blend and I call it my Well-Tempered blend, tipping my hat to JS Bach. Here it is: Red Virginia Ribbon 4 oz. AAA Burley 1 oz Turkish 2 TBS I get the tobacco from Pipes and...

Talk to me about English blends

I use perique very sparingly, as well as Turkish or latakia. The main tobaccos I use are Virginia and burley. They are like the bread and butter, the others are like the jam or spice.

Gross topic, but I have to ask….

As a non-expert, when I smoke a pipe or cigar, I produce saliva, but I swallow it, with each puff, more or less. I think that's part of tasting the tobacco.
