A Black and Tan, in a pipe ?

As many know "a black and tan" is Bass pale ale with Guinness floating on top. (may be other brands used but the concept is my focus)

Well pondering trying new things, Has anyone ever taken a bland flavored tobacco loaded half a bowl and loaded the top half with a more flavorful one and the end result been a method worth repeating?

I'm sure there are some flavor melding concerns, but also I think some positive results,

If the top layer is moist and the lower dry would balance a moisture issue.

The experience of a interesting pleasant flavor which could only be achieved this way.

For those who find the last half of a bowl unpleasant, use bland cheap tobacco with the good stuff on top, using the flavor change as a stop marker.

I'm going to give it a try as soon as I can determine which combonation I want to use,

I do it often. I have some blends that are wimpy on their own but do a great job of toning down others.

Ken Collins was fond of calling these mixes "parfaits".

I enjoy "Parfaits" using Flakes. One of my favorites is Condor/Bob's Chocolate Flake. Oh so delicious. :cheers:

Absolutely.

There's some woodier Virginias that I don't think were good quality that I bought some time ago that I load on top of/after some darker Cavendish that seems to improve the flavor and smokability of both. The Cavendish filters the woody VAs and once the VAs are done, the Cavendish had some peppery body from the smoke of the VAs, and finishes a lot sweeter and thicker.

I kind of look at it like a tobacco layer cake. 8)

I forgot to mention, I do this only in one of my pipes...I'd hate for the "bowl of many ghosts" to influence my other tobaccos or pipes...

...so it isn't a great thing to do whimsically, some might say, but maybe there's just one cob you might dedicate to experimenting with layers? *shrug* 8)
