The Pipe: Adam Davidson group (4) sandblasted nosewarmer made in 2008 with horn extention and ebonite stem. It was purchased as a very lightly smoked estate and nothing but Orlik Golden Slice was smoked in it by the previous owner.

This is the very first Davidson I've ever owned and actually the first I've ever seen in person. It's sandblasting is very well done indeed though shallow. It's not QUITE as deep and defined as what's currently being done by Brian Ruthenberg or Bruce Weaver. Still though, it's exactly what it's supposed to be and quite beautiful. It's more of a European blast and has a dunhill Shell quality in some ways. It's horn extention is dead on perfect in terms of finish and craftsmanship as it's stem which is rediculously thin! The button work on the stem is nothing short of masterful and it's tenon is long enough to butt up against the inner shank with the utter precision of a Ferrari.

I've smoked two bowls of what else, NAVY FLAKE in it so far and have been absolutely blown away! The draft is wide open and passes an Xra fluffy cleaner with relative ease. The moisture level remained low to the bottom of each bowl. It smokes as dry as you could possibly imagine. In addition it's crazy lightweight too. You could comfortably clench this thing for hours! The taste of the tobacco is 100% true with NO ghosting. I'm VERY thankful that the last owner never smoked latakia in it.

Pros: Spot on engineering and finish. Crazy comfortable bit. Decent size bowl capacity. True "hot pipe of the moment" designation.

Cons: VERY limited availability. New and estates are equally hard to find. I was told the waiting list for a new commission is nearly a year. Also, they do have a relatively high price tag. This little estate was $250.00. I would add though that it DOES offer a high bang for your buck return.

This pipe screams quality in everyway imaginable! Davidson's are surely all the rage now and as I stated above are accordingly a bit harder to obtain. If you're lucky enough to come across one I'd suggest you pull the trigger in a hurry. I guarantee you'll be pleased!

* * * * * Stars!

Nice review Dock. What a great looking and apparently great smoking pipe. The blast reminds me of a nice Castello Old Antiquari
blast, somewhat shallow but still relieving amazing detail. At this point I have to ask, does your pipe have a sister?
