Several years ago a friend who had switched from pipes to cigars gave me a good quanity of tobacco. Some in tins, and some in jars.I left it in a closet for five years. In recent months I've smoked just about all of it.It could be just my thinking, but it seems to me that the tobaco in the tins aged better. They seemed to taste fresher and more like the origional flavor.Any thoughts on this?

It may be that the tins had a better seal. IMHO, tobacco ages just as well in jars if they are sealed properly.

Agree. I think the wildcard is the different history tabaks have before going into a jar. There's interruption of the aging cycle if the tabak started in a tin, differences in preparation/composition of even the same blends which are intended to be tinned or sold bulk, etc.

Part of it may be the amount of O2, or simply air, that was in the tins compared to that in the jars.
Yes, the tins are vacuum sealed. Air and its contaminant gets in the jar before it's sealed unless you vacuum seal the jar.
