I think this is actually a bit bigger than just the DOJ. Some tech guys that I ride the train with were freaking out today (one actually had two cell phones to her ears at the same time). Apparently a large chunk of the internet backbone in the northeast has been effected.

Coulda told you it was a denial of service attack... pfff, dumb kids.

Back in the day, a room of a half dozen computers used to be able to do what these clowns do... but, the Internet was much smaller back then.

Like, who goes to the DOJ website, anyway? Buncha cyber-fops. Real style would have meant making it a temporary porn site. 8)

Apparently a new version of Megaupload is already up at a new domain. I guess they're threatening to attack the FBI site next.

Pretty wierd for sure.

Dave, what more did u hear??

Not much of substance, they were mostly talking about work arounds until the main problem was resolved. Mostly stuff that was over my head.

To every action there is always an equal and opposite reaction :joker:

Anonymous is a scary group. If you really think about it, all you have to do is piss them off, and they have the organization to take down anything. It's true that a DDoS is less impressive than actually hacking the site, but I'm sure they're already working on that. I guess the really scary thing is that nothing is secure on the web. No matter what the site ensures. Yeah there is encryption to protect discrete bits of information, but in terms of servers, content management systems, and other types of web software, they are all vulnerable to hack attacks. It's really kind of scary, at least to me.

Then again, I tend to be a bit paranoid about web content. I guess I know just enough to scare myself, but not enough to really know what I'm doing. LOL

As an individual, I wouldn't worry. What concerns me is the human need to not simply balance power (rare, reasonable) but overtake, have vengance, and go 1,000,000 steps beyond just to make a point (common, emotional overkill).

Interestingly, a lot of those kinds of guys, if caught, will avoid jail time by working for their enemies against the very people they started with. It's like making a drug lord a cop because he knows the trade.
