A pipe this ugly?
IMG_20121203_205113-1-1_zps2e2d10c0.jpg.html

I found a pipe rack on craigslist cheap, the guy gave me 4 pipes with it he was an older
guy, said they were his uncles

Well i guess you're still not going to, can't figure out what I'm doing wrong on my mobile, have to wait till later

Not sure what to tell ya brother! It shows up on the mobile version though. It's a little dirty but I'd say its still a nice meerschaum. If you really dislike it I'm sure one of the brothers would be happy to give it a good home.

Have to agree; from that photo at least it looks like it could be restored by anyone who knows how (granted, that leaves me off)

I think this pipe is uglier most of those, I didn't look close under all that grime, I wiped off the grime with a rag noticed there were no markings on it to tell who the maker was but it appeared to me that it was painted.... gonna have to look closer I guess

Much better shot there! It's definitely well worn but I love that in a meer. I would clean that puppy up and smoke the heck out of it. How do the guts of it look? Is it all clogged with tar or fairly clean?

Jim

I like the shape and patina, but that looks like the start of a crack on the stem at the shank.

In the realm of music gear, that would be called "mojo".

Clean it, load it, light it, rock it !!!

So if I decide to restore this pipe should I leave the out side of the bowl lookin as is, or do think it should be refinished
too?
Code:

The stem can be replaced if needed, but if it seems intact, I like the nicks, markings and character quite a bit. :)

Does anyone know what I need to do, or have any ideas on how to clean the old cake out of this meerschaum bowl and to clean the shank?
I have the stem soaking in alcohol, is there something better to use?
