Ran across this little video. What a waste of briar! You could have gotten 3 or 4 pipes out of that piece of briar.

Not a waste at all. He did little to the "pipe" (or more accurately, briar ring with a hole and a stem put into it), so it can still be cut up and made into pipes--at least you can see the general grain positioning. I bet even if the guy sells it for a pretty penny a master craftsman could hack that thing apart and make several $500 beauties out of it and still make money. :lol:

It's cool looking in a way, just because I like starin' at briar grain. The pipe smoker's/carver's version of those wannabe monster trucks guys drive (but never go off road). :lol:

That's Marco Biagini, helluva nice guy. He likes carving some massive plateaux for sure, but he also does really nice pipes of more traditional proportions.

This one appears to have flat bases at either end of the ring so I'de imagine it was designed to be a table pipe; which I think have probably always been conversational pieces as much as they are meant to be smokers.
