I haven't found a Taylor Ashton that was in my wheelhouse for a couple of years. This 1999 tan Pebble Grain was at a shop in Albany this afternoon at a great price. The XX size is perfect and I estimate it weighs about 40 grams. The pipe and stem is in mint condition with nary a toothmark. These pix are via my camera phone in my NY hotel room.

Nice Taylor Ashton Al!!!

It's a great feeling when you can manage to score a large bowled pipe that weighs less than 50 grams. I'm sure you are gonna enjoy that one immensely! I really like the blast as well!

On closer examination at home, this pipe was darn close to being unsmoked.  I polished the bowl with some Halycon and gave the stem my usual spit shine.  I had an opportunity to smoke it on the patio (first time this season!) and it smokes wonderfully.  You can really tell the oil-cured briar on the first couple of smokes.  I was surprised to find it weighs 53 grams, the bent/compact shape is a bit deceiving, but a very nice clencher.

I really like this one Al. Congrats sir!

A Tanshell finish !! My FAVE as they look soooo good after 40+ years of smoking !!  To bad it's bent    But it IS a NICE bent

Hope you are enjoying that Ashton pipe Al. I must say that the pipe may have been made after lunch because that's the first Pebble Grain that I've seen in an Old Church stain finish!!! Definitely mis-stamped IMO. Congrats on a fine XX size, and the finest British made pipe ever. Just my prejudiced opinion of course. LOL

Thanks Andy, I know you are a fan.
Bill must have drilled it in the AM, as it is drilled perfectly. Then, had lunch and some pints to do the staining...
I can say that I've never seen another tan Pebble Grain.
The pipe smokes wonderfully, with a nice draft and draw. I don't see it leaving my rack any time soon.

I agree Al, it must have been a morning and afternoon pipe. LOL
Those older Ashton's are fine smoking machines and have some great character to the sandblasting. Glad you're enjoying that little bent pebble grain.
