I'm wondering about bamboo stems having problems as they age,,,like drying out and cracking,,or changing size (loose tenon or bit),,sturdy or easily broken,,,cleaning issues?,,,absorbing moisture?,,,

I have an ancient Rinaldi (I think, it's has an R stamped into a gold cirlce) with a bamboo shank that has had no issues.

I believe they do dry out in time, but I've heard you can oil them.

All shank extensions are problem prone when only glued on.

The standard way for many years to attach bamboo was with nickel pins, which avoids the problems. The traditional English makers still do it that way.

Bamboo itself is amazingly durable stuff---no extra care is needed---but liner-less airways bored through it tend to collect a lot of lint from pipecleaners.
