One of the largest vendors has some incredibly beautiful new pipes online by Rolando Negoita and Eltang. A significant amount of them are virtual, pipes that have sold and that are featured simply for esthetics, but they still stimulate drooling. But the vast amount of improvement, I think, is in their superlative, unique appearance; other than offering a perfect draw, I wonder if they any better than, say, a $500.00 pipe.

There are fantastic pipes available if you've got the cash!

That is a killer bamboo shanked apple! Beautifully proportioned and organic, with kind of a nice "asian' aesthetic, as opposed to many that just look like a conventional pipe with a fat piece of bamboo glued to it. That Rolando pipe has an overall balance and cohesiveness that separates it from lesser pieces.

Exactly! While I admit I have seen a few conventional bowls with bamboo shanks that I thought were well done (small bowls and skinny bamboo for the most part), that Rolando piece is just what a bamboo shanked pipe should look like. Organic like it grew out of the ground as one piece and was simply fitted with a mouthpiece. Adam Davidson really makes some choice bamboo pieces both conventional and more organic. A friend of mine has one of his "amoeba" shapes with a delicate blackened piece of bamboo...sooo nice! And just for kicks here's a billiard with bamboo that works IMO

And an old thread with another example of Adams fantastic bamboo application
