I don't see anything that marks it a 1970 year pipe - how can you tell?

...fair point. I've been all over the place this morning and, apart from the title, didn't attend to the fact there's little else to suggest it's from 1970. I wonder how the seller has identified that?

Folks right a lot of inaccurate info in Ebay auctions. That date is merely speculation.

Ask the seller how he knows. I date some of my pipes by knowing the year I bought them new. Not exact, necessarily, but in the ball park.

:suspect: this could be trickier than I first expected. Nice pipe though...

..enquiry sent to seller. Let's see what he comes up with....

Maybe upon payment he scratches the year of your choice in the side of the bowl with a steak knife? :D

I have a Savinelli Capri root briar in this same shape/finish. Mine has a replacement stem which looks identical except for the lack of a logo. It is a great smoker.

It has a three digit style number which Savinelli went to around 1974. Before then they used a four digit style number so this pipe with it's 122 style number would be AFTER your birth date of 1970.
