I sort of bought this for myself, but when the package arrived yesterday the wife said, "perfect, I was looking for your birthday present". I manage a few snaps before she whisked it away until August 3rd...

This is my first B grade Upshall and by appearances, I was very impressed by the combination of Barry Jones and Les Woods. Its my perfect weight, 51 grams and passes a cleaner easily (I worried about that, give the bend)

Grain...Stem...Silver

Everything about it is spot on.

But, you wife is a bit cheap about it.  I mean -- come on -- birthdays deserve a bit of surprise.

"Oh my goodness, honey.  You shouldn't have."

Shhh, don't tell her that! I hate to be surprised, particularly with a pipe and my eclectic tastes. She knows this and just waits until I make a buy, then she grabs it. Fortunately, I got the mail yesterday....she knows pipe boxes.

Don't you just love the word eclectic?

It covers so many of our common failings. And a few not so...

Yep, a kinder Jones code for "weirdo"....<g> I'm not odd, I'm eclectic, it sounds so much more regal.

That is a very nice pipe. The first spigot That I find attractive. I have sever pipe envy. Where did you get it?:bounce: :bounce:

Cool pipe and great story. You buying it and her grabbing it up and calling it your present is amusing. And on top of that, she's making you wait. Sounds like she's got a lively personality.

From his wife, silly.

It is on the top shelf in the closet. I'm sure you can reach it. At least that's where they were when I was a kid. Bless chairs then.

Al,
That pipe is pretty special. It's not often you see Upshall silver spigots. And a "B" grade as well. Fantastic and well deserved. Your spouse is a treasure as well. Congrats.

I never even smoked the pipe, but wondered what it would look like with a Cumberland Stem. I had recently seen a stem on another forum, a Cumberland made by Floyd Norwood for a Dunhill and was impressed. I shipped this off to Floyd, who made the stem the day it was received and shipped the next business day. I'm real happy with the new Cumbeland stem. And, he polished the original black stem to also use on the pipe. I'll use that for travel. $38 shipped for the new stem was quite a deal I think.

I'm very pleased with the service by Norwood Pipe Repair.

Looks like it could have been what Upshall would have put on it !! NICE

Thanks guys, the great news is the pipe smoked as good as she looks.
