I just ordered a Boswell straight billiard. I would show it to you but I bought it sight unseen. This should be interesting...

Good luck with that Bill, some folks swear by Boswell Pipes. I've never owned one, so I can't offer anything by way of opinion or advice. Let us know how it goes will you? :pipe:

I have 4 Boswell's and love all 4 of them. They all smoke excellent. I often check their site for more.

I had a bad experience with the Boswells, no more pipes for me.
Care to tell us what happened? I've never had a bad experience with the Boswell's. Amy and I own two of their pipes and we've smoked a bit of their tobacco... Must have been a really bad experience for you to give up on them completely.

I have a Boswell shotshell bent that just can't seem to find what it likes,,,somewhere along the way I'm sure it will shine,,,,

I had wanted a Boswell, so when JP & I went to the NY Pipe Show we visited their shop. I was quite impressed with them and the whole operation. I picked up a bent billiard off the wall and plan to get another pipe from them in the future. It's one of the best smokers I own, got it for $55 plus tax.

Good luck with the Boswell. I own a couple of their pipes and even though they're not much to look at, they're both great smokers. I've always felt that Boswell pipes were charming for being rather clumsy looking. I like 'em. Others, I gather--especially those who value their pipes as aesthetic objects--are not so taken by them.

I've only had one, and had the same problem. Didn't like it; wasn't aesthetically pleasing. I traded it for a green Peterson, and I think I ripped the guy off.....

I would venture to say it wasn't one of his high grades because mine wasn't as nice looking as that poker.

Bill, back in 2002 I had bought several Boswell twist carved billiards straight and bent in different finishes and as best I can remember, they were pretty good smoking pipes and well made, I enjoyed them but as the newness wore off and I acquired more pipes I smoked them less and less until finally they were replaced in my pipe rotation by pipes I liked better. I still have them but truthfully have not smoked them in many years.

Some of these Boswell sellers completely baffle me. Why would I pay 25-100% more for a used Boswell pipe? It's not as if they're collectible at this point. People want them to smoke. Some carvers can demand that kind of response. I just don't see it with Boswell (yet, possibly). Check out some of the Buy It Now prices on eBay. Some of the resale shops to a lesser degree. I don't get it (unless they're trying to find that 1 in a 1000 fool, which I realize is often the case with such pricing).

The one thing I notice is Boswells usually puts their fresh pipes on their site on thursdays,,,quite often sold out that day or close to it, so maybe it's a supply-demand thing,,,(I know, but nevermind)

I've got 3 of Mr. Boswells pipes, and I love em. Judging from the resale values on ebay, they certainly hold their value!

Living close to them and owning several, I also find that puzzling, but that is the mystery of Ebay to some extent. I mentioned to JM that a B&M near Baltimore was reselling his pipes at some pretty rediculous prices. He replied that is one reason that he doesn't sell to shops any more, but Ebay is a free-for-all.

JM has plenty of pipes for sale on his wall, well after his weekly posting sells out. I love both of mine and as described earlier, the clumsy look is part of the appeal. They do take a while to break in, but than they smoke well. I love the thick walls (at least on both of mine). My half-bent, which I travel with frequently. I see it kind of a journey-man pipe.

To this point, my Boswell Freehand is the most expensive pipe I've owned. I just bought a pricey (for me) Ashton, so I'm curious to how that smoking experience compares.

Wow, Hermit, this is an extraordinary Poker! Thanks for posting that picture.
I hope that we can soon take a look at your new Boswell too, Bill.
