Looking to pick up some bulk tobaccos in a few different categories to fill up some mason jars and was hoping I could get some suggestions. Any cut will do (flakes, coins, ribbon, rope, etc) as long as it is available in bulk. Looking for:

1) VA/Per

2) Virginia + Orientals/Turkish

3) Burley (can be straight or mixed other stuff as long as burley is the feature tabac)

I don't mind if they include some Latakia as long as it is mostly in the background, or some Cavendish to round things out.

Any suggestions? I'm already planning on odering some PS Luxury Bullseye flake for Va/Per, McClelland's 2045 for Va/Or and some C&D Old Joe Krantz & Haunted Bookshop for Burleys. Just wondering if there are any other recommended bulks from the brotherhood in these 3 categories that I should check out also.

Those are good choices :D

What I have found helpful is to keep some McClelland's 5100 and 2015 always on hand. These two serve a dual purpose. They are wonderful on their own but they also can be used to "add" to a tobacco that's not quite to your taste. You'd be amazed what these two can bring to blend that you're kicking yourself for buying.

Peter Stokkebye Cube Cut Burley is pretty decent and very affordable.

Under the VaPer category - H&H Louisiana Red & C&D Bayou Morning are both very good. For a burley with a little lat in it, try C&D Morley's Best.

Awesome, thanks guys!

All have been noted to add a couple ounces to next order to try out.

I had forgotten that I have a bit o' Morley's best from a box pass sample that I have yet to try. I'll give it a shot to see how it suits my tastes.

Puffs is dead on with this recommendation. Instead of straight McC 5100 I blend it 2:1 with 5105 for a bit richer flavor. The two meld extremely well over time to give you an extraordinary straight virginia smoke.

Well aged McC 2015 is my goto Vaper, although I have recently put back a good bit of PS Bullseye (and PS Luxury Twist in the Va catagory) since I have been enjoying both of them as an everyday smoke as well. Frost, I seem to remember you are an Escudo fan and none of these are as perique heavy as that, but if you want a nice balance with the virginias then they are mighty tasty.

I like the Peretti burleys...all i have tried

H&H Classic Burley Kake is really good....I got a 2 oz sample and plan on putting a couple pounds in th cellar.

I've fallen back into Uhle's #300 for my cubed burley addiction. A touch of "honey" and cavendish, but basically the sweetest, slow smoking cube cut burley there is.

Natch

Thanks Hunter...yeah I definately dig Escudo, also Reiner LGF of late but that isn't necesarilly what I am looking for. I don't need a perique bomb really, just a little something to make the VA more interesting.

The idea is to order small samples of a bunch of stuff and hopefully find one or two in each category that I can order a crapload of to keep around for aging and a reliable go-to smoke, without having to shell out the dough for enough tins to get the same quantity. Hopefully this will help me to be a bit more selective with tin purchases without feeling like my tobacco supply is inadequate for my needs.

Peter,
So, I guess you smoked all of it already? (McClelland Bulks)
Which was your favorite of the lot?

Frost,
Don't forget 2010 "Straight Virginia" and as already recommended the 2015 VaPer.
2015 is spectacular to say the least. If you want to experiment, buy some of the McClelland blending tobaccos. That way, you can tweak it to your tastes.
5100 Red cake is nice to use as a base for blending your own special mix.

Aside from some of the ones already listed in the above posts, two of my favorite bulk blends are by Park Lane Tobacconist: Connoisseurs Flake, a Scottish blend, and Knightsbridge, an English. I've also heard good things about their Old Church and Turkish Mystery.

Peter,
Is that list in order favorite to least?
That would be so Dover...... bare in mind that the tinned stuff you sent are in cellar so I have no way of commenting besides Chelsea Morning that I have smoked with Muddler already and I loverd it.
Say bro....... hit some VAPER last night and it was such a good smoke it should now move way up the chart!
