Does cherry have certain qualities that you~others prefer over briar?

Cherry gets hotter IMO. You've got to smoke it slower. I have 2 cherry pipes; a churchwarden and a MM Ozark.
umm, mine I love they are lite, robust and smoke really great. Cant say I prefer them to briar but always a welcomed change when I do light them up mate. I love the look of them also I really know I am smoking wood.

I used to have several cherry woods; the one in my first post is the only one I've kept and I don't smoke it much anymore; I haven't noticed it getting hotter than briar, but then mine have had pretty thick walls as you can see. The others were this style - one round shank and one diamond shank; I kept the one as it belonged to a good friend and also as it is a more "traditional" cherry wood style...
