I'm pretty happy with the pipes I have now, but I realized that Im missing one that I've always wanted, a long churchwarden.

The funny thing is that there aren't that many around, at least not in the shapes that Im looking for. I would like something in an apple or pot shape with a bent stem, but I haven't seen any. The only ones that seem interesting are the Savinellis, and only 2 are the length I'm looking for. However, I heard Savinelli wardens smoke hot. My bidget is $100 max. Can anyone recommend any that match those criteria?

I haven't smoked one personally, but Peterson makes churchwardens, many at your pricepoint, in an apple shape. (My friend has one in the ebony finish--he's new to pipes but speaks well of it.)

I've also considered taking a regular pipe and refitting it with a long churchwarden stem. Would that be advisable?

I believe Stanwell makes a pipe that includes a churchwarden stem, as well as a standard stem to make it a regular length pipe. Maybe the best of both worlds?

I have a GBD churchwarden that smokes great. I also have a slightly shorter Savinelli Gandalf (aka Quandale) (semi-cw?) that is exceptional.

that's the Hans Christian Anderson series. While having both long and short stems is vey useful, it's not quite the shape I'm looking for

I've got a Peterson and a savinelli churchwarden. I like them both. I also like the stanwell HCA

Don't have experience with that particular pipe but I have been happy with every Sav I've bought. I too have a Quandale and it smokes very nicely.

I have several Bjarne churchwardens, all of which I like.

One by Johs also, which is good. This one is quite similar to the Johs I have. Several other Johs there to meet your budget.

Edit: There is a Brindisi churchwarden on marscigars.com for under $30. I have one similar to that. It smokes fine, but the finish on the wood is...well...a $30 finish....so you get what you pay for. :)

As for Savinelli, I like all mine, including Quandales, Bing's Favorite, Clark Gable's Favorite, and others. I think you can't really go wrong with Savinelli. Just be sure to put the black plastic tube insert in if you don't use the filters.

I've never encountered any issues with Sav pipes smoking hot.

Edit: Of course, you could go for a MacQueen churchwarden! But I find the fat round bit gets tiresome.
