First, pipe screens: when I got my first MM, the lady asked if I also wanted some pipe screens. Had no idea but since they were only .50 I figured what the heck and got some. Haven't been using them, should I? A couple of times, Ive had bits of tobacco come through the stem and get into my mouth. I took this as the pipe telling me to relax and sip, not suck on the stem till my eyes crossed. I also read a post somewhere that pipe screens were for smoking things other than tobacco (shrug)?
Second question: Is it OK to leave unsmoked tobacco in a cob? i.e. I get interrupted by life, set my pipe down and can't get back to it till the next day. Have done this a few times and been surprised by how good tobacco taste the second day, but wonder if I'm harming the pipe in some way.
Any thoughts, suggestions, or witty remarks?

Bin the pipe screens, load your pipe, sip it, enjoy it and do what you want with your pipes, experimentation os half the enjoyment and the best way to find out what is best for YOU.

I regularly leave tobacco in a briar pipe for 24 or even 48 hours - sometimes it is great, sometimes not, but that's just life!! Best to dump the ash before you leave it, I find this helps keep the tobacco tasting sweet on a relight.

Screens:   not for tobacco or tobacco pipes.   Why bother?  They're a b*tch to clean/replace, clog up pretty quick, prevent a cake from forming at the heel, and cost extra money.  Pack properly and you won't need 'em to keep tobacco/ash from being drawn into your mouth.

Leaving tobacco in any pipe:   bad idea.   Pipes won't rest/dry easily, flavors and pipes will get funky if this is done too often, and if it's simply a matter of too much tobacco, pack half-bowls.   Waste not, want not.   If you like half-smoked tobacco, which is up to you, scrape it out and save it, re-pack it later.   Kinda gross, but you like what you like.

Screens are definitely not for tobacco. And leaving the rest of your pipe for the next day can be a good thing . I find some blends tend to be a little harsh after sitting in a pipe half way smoked overnight and some tend to taste great. You definitely want to try and avoid leaving wet dottle in your pipe over night. That can get gross

I occasionally put a pipe down and relight it the next day. Some call it DGT (delayed gratification technique). Some tobaccos work better than others for this,,,whatever works for ya.

The answer is contained within the question.

That's it. And if you aren't harming the pipe during the hot smoke, I can't think of a way how it can be harmed by leaving the tobacco overnight.
No. 1 rule of pipe smoking: Do whatever rows your boat!
