Hi Fellas,

I'm new to the community, and a beginning pipe-smoker. When I bought my first pipe I had no intention of starting a collection, but the urge to buy new ones is almost unstoppable. I find myself unexpectedly browsing ebay every day in search of some fine briars, much to the confusion and dismay of my girlfriend.

Anyhow, I'm in the market for a nice Danish estate with a large bowl. Nothing too fairy-talish, or too fancy and befitting a young man's budget.
I was wondering if you guys could recommend any Danish pipe-makers which I should keep my eyes open for.

Thanks,
Toon

Up until this year Stanwell was a Danish made pipe that can be purchased as reasonably as any pipe on the market. The new production has been moved to Italy but many estates or old-stock you may find should be made in Denmark, just check the markings. These are very highly regarded here on BoB as well as most other pipe forums. They offer everything from traditional styles to flamboyant freehands. I am sure you could find one to your liking.

PS, welcome to BoB!!

Follow and read this link. It has most of the main makers and then their seconds.
For instance under Brands and Makers Denmark under A ---- Aalborg is a Erik Nording
Second.

Ok i know you said Denmark Pipe. Look under Great Britain You will see a Ace of Spades Pipe is a COMOY second.

Look Pipedia over it will give you a heads up on what people post on ebay.

Happy Hunting,
Ed

My Favorite Danish/Scandinavian pipe maker is Bengt Carlson. He makes a smaller pipe which is perfect for clenching and perfect for Virginia's. He was a student and friend to the famous Bo Nordh so his style and grace-of-execution is quite similar; although, he makes more of a practical pipe and doesn't really venture into the world of museum/art pieces. His pipes smoke like a dream, but they don't show up often on ebay... mainly because his production is so low (25 pipes or less a year) and most owners don't let them go. I'm not sure this helps you but this is the Scandinavian pipe maker that I would recommend for my friends.

PS. The pipes in my avatar were made by Bengt.

Ben Wade The Danish Ben Wade were made by Preben Holm.
Bijou Second by Stanwell; discontinued.
Bjarne
Brandt Hans Brandt, Fred Brandt; København
Crown Second brand produced by Preben Holm and today by Poul Winsløw
Danish Sovereign Second by Stanwell
Danske Club Second by Stanwell

and there are many others you just have to know what you looking at.

Hope this helps.

What Hunter said--it's hard to go wrong with an older Stanwell, and the prices are very reasonable.

Thanks a lot, guys.
The Old Stanwells seem to be just the thing I'm looking for, a sturdy build and fairly priced.

If you can find one, the old Jobey Dansk pipes, which I think were a Karl Erik line, are pretty good value too. And available for about 40 bucks no problem on ebay.
