I found another one of my "Holy Grail" shapes last week, a 1971 Dunhill CK Shell. The pipe arrived today and only needed to have the stem shined up a bit. The pipe is a Group 4 and weighs right in my sweet spot at 44 grams.

One surprise is that the pipe is a 6 mm filter pipe. I spoke to Floyd at Norwood pipe repair, he can put in a vulcanite plug for about $10. I also picked up two Savinelli 6 mm filter adaptors at Cup O'Joes today. I think that will also work well and will give it a shot over the weekend.

Love the CK shape!

Come to think of it, I like most of the other Dunhill letter shapes too.

I've knocked off quite a few of the pipes on my "Holy Grail" list this year (started 3 years ago).  I realized I now had a "Holy Grail" Seven Day set.

Top to Bottom:

Sasieni Ashford Ruff-Root
Dunhill CK (1971)
GBD 9438 Virgin
GBD 9242 New Standard
Comoys 284 Tradition
Comoys 498 Extraordinaire
Comoys 499 Extraordinaire

Wow, I think I'm most surprised that it only weighs 44grms.

Have you tried smoking it without the filter or adapter? I have a couple filter pipes that I find smoke the best without anything. I have a bend Dublin that actually passes a pipe cleaner without the adapter.

I have to say, that 498 is my favorite of the lot.

Just a gorgeous collection of pipes Al. Congratulations and that '71 Dunhill is simply beautiful.

Oh boy is that one sweet looking Dunnie, you must be absolutely over the moon having managed to snag one of those, mind you that Comoys 284 Tradition is a gorgeous pipe too, congrats on acquiring so many of your Holy Grails. :sunny:

That is one stunning pipe Al. Everything about is, well, right. I'm made up for you matey.
Pip pip.

Quite the impressive line-up there Al. Congrats on getting your Holy Grail 7-day set. I can see why you like that shape so much!

Cheers,

RR

I had a '63 Dunhill that was also a 6 mm pipe. I didn't care for the open draw, so it was sold.

I just finished the adapter piece. It took a little bit of work, but the draw feels good now. Proof will be in the pudding.

I envy you, my bro' :(

Beautiful set of pipes, I just LOVE that shape. But, no Sav there?

I smoked the CK this morning, with my adaptor, beautiful and just right in the draw. In fact, it was an excellent smoke.

Coincidentally, I was just gifted a beautiful Savinelli 904 KS Giubileo d'Oro by a pipe friend (and member here!) I had a 320 on my list, but after handling a few, the shape doesn't work for me.

That's a beautiful line up you have there!
Of course, in my eyes, the Comoys win!
