So, I have been diving into EBAY quite a bit. I have been limiting my searches and purchases to US only. Anyone have any positive/negative feedback about purchasing from around the globe?

Thanks in advance!

John

I have had a couple things come from the UK with no problem.

I will select purchases from International sellers, but only if they are a commercial or well known collector site.
Not being multi-lingual I'm not confident about buying from private International sellers on ePrey. That's why I love pipe shows, especially Chicago where attendees from many countries attend and we can converse and carry on face to fact transactions.

I'm with Doc on his international comment and pipe shows. Watch a lot of auctions for the pipe brands/shapes you like, you'll quickly get a feel for the top sellers and who is trustworthy.

Oops, I just saw you hail from Alaska, getting to a pipe show might be quite a trek....

Sadly it is true, getting to a show is a bit of a stretch! I have a pretty good grasp on the domestic us sellers on eprey that are decent, just not so much on the international. I have an sneaking suspicion that I will avoid the Chinese made 'wood" pipes though :pirat:

Don't drunkenly browse Ebay UK - you may end up bidding in pounds rather than dollars without realizing it...

I have had nothing but positive experiences purchasing pipes on ebay, though. In truth, I have had very few negative experiences with ebay at all.

I've bought a couple pipes from the better known Italian dealers like Dinopuffin, and Enrimore with no problems, as well as from the Neatpipes site. German dealers were also easy to do business with.
China, I tend to avoid...

Ebay international is a great way to get products you cant find here. I use to sell internationally and I don't anymore because its to expensive. Just be careful when you purchase used items...

I've had nothing but possitive experiences with Ebay purchases from Italy, Germany, Poland and the UK. Only problem with Ebay that in have run into is that some of the US sellers won't ship or accept bids from Canada. One reason might be that they have no control over how long customs might hold the products being shipped and the cost of shipping. Some might feel they could get negative feed back. Maybe the paperwork & red tape might be more than it's worth i don't know. Myself i realize it's out of there hands once it been mailed and wait patiently. In the past i've had US BOB stand up and offer to make bids on my behalf. A possitive example of the quality of individuals here at the BOB. Thanks again you know who you are.

The most problems I've had on e-prey in the past was getting stuff to make it thru the Italian, French and Eastern European Postal Systems. Many times I would get an empty box that had been re- sealed after the contents were removed prior to anything making it to customs! I haven't bought on the Prey in probably 10 years now and won't/ To many other easier and more hassle free resources to be bothered with it to my way of thinking. JMHO

This. Dinopuffin, Enrimore, Pierro9643 (or whatever the hell his number is).... these guys ship you a pipe. BruyerePipes out of Germany is the same. You get it fast, proper.

Almost the only guys I buy from.

One thing to keep in mind about buying outside the US is that when you purchase a pipe over $180, there will be a customs tax charged to you based on the amount of the pipe. For a pipe around $200, you will pay around $20, which will be billed to you about a week after you receive the pipe. This tax is collected by FedEx or UPS directly.

Also, the ebay buyer protection program does not cover a sale when you purchase outside the US. I had to learn this the hard way, when I received a broken Sadik Yanik pipe, which he would not refund or replace, and ebay buyer protection would not cover.
