It has arrived !! Big Brown drove up to my house at lunch today and had a package from S. Carolina for me :p I must say, those folks up in S. Carolina do a bang-up job on their Estate pipes.! It came in a new burgandy box w/ their logo on it and the pipe was secured from movement inside the box with popcorn and my GOURGEOUS Stanwell was nestled in a lovely burgandy felt drawstring pipe sock !!! In many ways, nicer than I have gotten new pipes in the past !!
Inside the sock was one of the nicest examples of straight/flame grained briar in a bowl and it was ALL THE WAY AROUND the bowl!! Other than the darkening of the briar that smoking does to it ( you can't stain this look) and some minimal rim darkening, this pipe was PERFECT and as nice as new!! It has my fave bit shape, a nice wide, thin fishtailed ebonite with a perfect button and no sign it had ever been in between any teeth. I feel sure it is a well made replacement as there's no indication of the Stanwell logo on it, but that's just fine with me !!
It has birdseye all around the rim and I just smoked a bowl of Mature Virginia #27 in it and you would have thought it had been smoked with it for ever! Just smooth, full Virginia with no ghosting of anything !! Size wise, I'd put it btwn. a grp3/grp4 and sipping my #27 gave me a 1 1/2 hour smoke !
I have to say, my first experience with this "Estate" thing has exceded my expectations for sure !! Here's the pic from smokingpipes.com of it again !! I be one HAPPY PUPPY    ( I can't wait for my Orlik now :p )

The group of pipes I purchased from SP last week came yesterday, three of which are estates. It's definitely worth noting that their estates are quite clean (or otherwise mentioned very clearly) and polished up inside and out real nice. So that will be the...... fourth estate I've bought and sure as heck won't be the last.

NOW, on to your Stanwell. It actually put a smile on my face knowing that you had such a pleasant first smoke and are so happy with it. As you should be! It's gorgeous! I've got two Stanwell's on the way and I hope I experience as nice a christening as you did with yours.

What are we gonna call that anyway? A Potish Billiard?

Once again, very lovely.

It's slightly taller than my grp3 # 501 Pot Dunhill Bruyerre I bought back in '72, but the rest is almost exactly identical :p

I say that is one sharp Stanwell! That ebonite replacement stem is no doubt more comfortable than the acrylic Stanwell item, at least I like them better than acrylic. Enjoy!

Whew! You scared the CRAP out of me.

When I first glanced at this thread, I thought you said you smoked a bowl of Mixture #79 in it. :affraid: After all, it has a 7 in it and 2+7=9.

Darn, I gotta pay more attention...

That is a pretty Stanwell. Smokingpipes.com always seems to do a pretty good job all the way around they never seem to disapoint. I just got a new Peterson from them a few days ago.

No sir, Brother Monbla - let's get this blend straight. It's a custom proprietary blend that I make here in Missouri and consists of the following:

Tequila and a shot of NyQuil added to a blend of Paladin, Captain Black Cherry, and Mixture #79 - along with some ground up Swisher Sweet for that fine cigar leaf 'something special'.
