Thanks for that info Monbla. I've used it before but the thing that is missing are the year date marks for Ireland that I cannot locate.
I use the small Bradbury's book of Hallmarks which is the definitive reference for Year Dates.
Maker's Marks seldom appear on sterling or gold banded pipes as it's used much more for Flatware or large Chargers, Pitchers, etc. that I can see. There is one mark that I do recognize though which is MR&Co Marchal Rauchon & Company (sp) which can be found on some fine old British pipes.
 
Thank you posting this info. I bought an older peterson with a silver band on it from a local b&m. It took me hours of searching through assay office information to find out how old it was. Even then, I only found out it was from the Irish assay house. Had to search through bing images to find year stamps. It was frustrating to say the least.
