Falcon Shillelagh

Just wanted to share a wonderful eBay experience I recently had with Kathy A. Worth who recently wrote "Back From the Ashes: Uncovering the Lost History of G.L. Hunt and the Falcon Pipe". Being a recent convert to Falcon pipes (I love how they smoke), I had a couple of straights, with an Apple & Dublin bowls. Anyways, I was on the search for a rare vintage twisted stem model - the Falcon Shillelagh, model FD14. Kathie had a beauty for sale, with a candy red Apple bowl. After a minor bidding war, the pipe was mine. Kathy promptly shipped it out and kept me updated w/ very nice emails. The day it was delivered, I was the only one home, so I greatly enjoyed unwrapping in the peace of an empty house. As I quickly realized dear Kathy had placed an additional number of Falcon items in addition to the candy red Apple Shillelagh I had bid on. Kathy gave me two rare classic bowls, vintage early Hyperboles, carved in G.L. Hunt's Chicago factory. These early bowls are unstained but rusticated. In the Hyperbole shape. Their threads are shallower than later bowls, yet fit snugly on the stem. In addition they do not carry the rubber O rings, found in the modern production from the UK. Very cool. Both bowls smoke beautifully, by the way. Kathy also threw in another stem, a green quarter bent. Also, an additional baby blue painted Apple bowl to go along with the candy red bowl that I bid on, that came with the Shillelagh. I was speechless. I ordered one Falcon, but got two, plus three additional bowls! I have never been more pleased with an eBay transaction, and I quickly rushed off a number of emails to thank Kathy and tell her how her grandpa's Falcon pipes were smoking. Kathy said she was pleased that these pipes were finally fulfilling their destinies. Wow! I am humbled to be part of this long chain. The beauty of Falcons is that you can smoke the daylights out of them and they'll be none the worse for wear. Thank you Kathy!

Great story, always nice to hear of a business deal taken beyond just that by the generosity of one of the parties.

Congratulations & Enjoy!

I have falcon pipes on my wish list......other brothers on BOB have previously given them a top recommendation.
