Back in the early '70s when I was a newbie to pipes a British guy I worked with who was a pipe smoker gave me a tin of Four Square Red a full "Lady N' loaded ready rubb'd straight Va and said ?enjoy" with an evil gleam in his eye! It was the main blend he smoked and it was one of the strongest Va's I can ever recall smoking!! They had 6 colors of "Four Square" blends, all Va's, and was the other tobacco George Simenon smoked besides Royal Yacht! I smoked it off and on back then, then the firm closed up shop and it's not been available since the late '70s. Found this interesting article on the blends made by the firm which were made in Paisley. Scotland and thought folks might like a bit of history of "back in the day" Enjoy

Thanx for the link :D Another of my favs from way back when that just suddenly disappeared :( Some tins show up on the 'Bay, they always price out very high end!! FTRPLT

Loved the green, but wasn't a big fan of the others. Good quality blends, though.

Never smoked any Four Square but really enjoyed seeing advertising. ThanKs for the link Michael. :)

Four square tobacco is good, at least the little bit I have had. I have an open tin of Four Square Mild Navy Cut. It smells and tastes like fresh bread out of the oven. Yummy.

I also have squirreled away, a tin of Four Square Ready Rubbed Flake, and a tin of Four Square Curlies. According to the gentleman I got them from, both unopened tins are approximately 30 yrs old.. He states that he purchased them from an friend 15 years ago, and that they were approx 15 yrs old then. All I know is that I am saving the unopened tins for a very special occasion. The Mild Navy cut was unopened, but the seal had broken. I had to rehydrate before enjoying. It is amazing for sure.
