I would like to get some input from members here. There is a GBD African Block Meerschaum pipe here, given to me by the former owner. I have other meerschaum pipes but none of them are African Block. This pipe is large about 7" long with a deep wide bowl, not a pipe one would walk around and smoke. How much difference is there between the way these smoke and other meerschaums. Been smoking pipes for most of my life but this would be a first for me. Hope readers can offer some help on this.

Any kind of meerschaum will lack the flavor resonance of a dedicated, well-seasoned briar.

Other than that, it should smoke fine.

I own over 25 Meers. I started smoking them 40 years ago. Most of the meers that i own are African meer. Becahse of the way the african Meers are manufactured, they provide a excelent smoke, and are very durable. When first introduced to these pipes. I had little knowlege on how to care for them, so I tried all sorts of cleaning agents in careing for them.one of my favorite methods for cleaning them was to soak them in warm liquid dish detergent, then flush them throughly with cold water. After drying out, they were almost fresh as new. I use this method still.
I am not recomending this to any one, just relating my experience. Because there is not a lot of info on how to clean an estate meer, one must take care in the cleaning method used.
I caution against salt & sprit treatment. All of the pipes below are African Meer.

Thanks very much for your input. I am going to start smoking this pipe. The size of the pipe is overwhelming. One bowl of tobacco would probably last a long time. It will become a homne or cabin pipe. There is too much weight to carry comfortable outside of the home. This "forum" is a great source of information. Thanks again.
